Slow and Purposeful

Hey guys,

A quick question (which I hope belongs here. Mods, please let me know if otherwise).

I think I was dealt a bit of an underhanded rules blow by a new opponent recently.

The basic set-up = He had a librarian with Catiphractii termie armor in a 20 man tactical squad. He stated that as his Catiphract termi was Slow and Purposeful, he confered all of those bonuses/penalties to the unit. I took his word for it and just assumed it would make his giant tactical squad that much less manuerverable.

He then proceeded to march them forward and "fury of the legion" one of my my destroyer squads into oblivion with 80 prescienced bolter shots.

"I thought you couldn't move and Fury," I asked.

"They are slow and purposeful, they don't count as moving when firing heavy, rapid fire or salvo weapons," he retorted.

Is this interpretation accurate? Or should I go back and have a conversation with this gentleman?

Thanks in advance for your help folks!

Filthy lies! this was cleared up in a recently FAQ I believe. Slow and purposeful is NOT conferred to the rest of the unit. I shall now go and find said FAQ

Edit in the latest FAQ available  Here

– Cataphractii Pattern Terminator Armour

Add the following line to the last paragraph of the Wargear’s description:

“Models in a unit joined by a model in Cataphractii Terminator Armour do not have the Slow and Purposeful rule conferred on them, contrary to the usual application of the rule, but must remain in coherency with the joined character while they stay with the unit (which may limit their distance moved overall, consolidation moves, etc.)”

Even before the FAQ I really doubt they would be able to move and use fury of the Legion anyway. Even if Slow and Purposeful applied to them (like it seemed before the FAQ) the fury of the legion rule says the make the additional attack if they didn't move, arrive via deep strike etc. Slow and Puroseful just said the count as stationary for what concern FIRING those weapon. Fury of the Legion has its own requirements. Before the FAQ you could move and shoot with heavy support squads not making a fury of the legion attack after moving.

Anyway there is no longer any issue since the FAQ is clear on on Cataphractii Slow and Purposeful ;)

A Night Lords player out-cheated, oh the disgrace laugh.png

In all seriousness, I hope it was over enthusiasm on your opponent's part.

I usually fine, that if it feels overpowered and wrong, then, despite all that's thrown at GW, it probably is breaking one rule or another ;)

The chances are high the opponent didn't check the FAQ, ;)

Wow, that was snappy. Thanks guys! I will be bringing a printout of the FaQ the next time I play.

@Durfast - I know, why do you think it bugged me enough to start a topic on it! Oh the (post)humanity! It does seem far more nightlords-y to surround a small squad and overkill bolter them into nothingness.

Even before the FAQ I really doubt they would be able to move and use fury of the Legion anyway.

I'd agree, and that was my first reaction: "Wait, you can't do that FAQ or not!"  But I think there might be a legitimate discussion about that pre-FAQ.

Did they at least remember that you can't shoot the turn after Fury of the Legion?

What about Crysos Mortug (or other Librarian) with Endurance giving a squad Relentless?
