Legion Tactical Squads/ Fury of the Legion

Fellow Legionnaires,

I'm working my way through a Sons of Horus army list and I've wanted to pick this forum's collective mind. This is what I want to run:

Legion Tactical Squad(10)

Nuncio-vox
Legion Vexilla (because it looks cool, and it's cheap)
Melta-bombs (Sergeant)

All of this comes out to be 175 pts, with no special weapons for the Sergeant. Is this advisable? I want to follow the BL books for and make it less like 40k. I figured that only special characters like centurions and terminators get powered weapons.

I also want to take advantage of the "Fury of the Legion" special rule. A quick dice roll gave me this:

(at 12 inches and with a 10 man squad)

Roll to Hit: 28/40 or 70%

Roll to Wound (Against Toughness 4): 16/28 or 57%

Armor Saves:  11/16 or 68%

So 5 dead legionnaries. Or is "Fury of the Legion" only good with 20 man squads? What do you guys think?

What do you think about equipping Sergeants with special weapons? Yes or no?

10 man squads are cheaper to buy and yo ucan put those extra dollars and points into other things that go dakka dakka. :)

The basic Tactical squad is 150 pts, but it is only 10 pts per additional marine thereafter.

So buying in bulk is cheaper in cost (with multipacks and free postage) and points ;)

Sergeants can take Heavy Chainswords, which are a bargain upgrade for the points cost. Or combi weapons, letting you squeeze in that situational melta or flamer while keeping up the torrent of bolter fire.

As for squad size, I've found 20 man units to be more resilient, even more so when you add an Apothecary. Fury also seems to work better at larger squad sizes. But, I have yet to field multiple 10 man squads, so 4 10 man squads might be a better choice than 2 20 man squads.

it depends strictly on the points level you're playing at.  I'm running multiple 10 man squads in pairs, one to use Fury and another to charge the softened target.  Using 2 smaller squads in tandem works better for me at 1500pts, where if I played at 1750 or more I might want to try bulking the squads out.  That being said, bigger squads also have a larger footprint they cover which could be beneficial or a detriment, depending on the game.

One tactic I've seen used effectively with two tens is overlapping Fury. One squad fires Fury and the other moves up. Then it fires Fury while the other reloads and runs forward. It lets you keep moving but still putting out lots of shots.
