Tau and the VIth....

Just played my first game against 6E Tau and won handily. My opponent made a lot of mistakes and I think once he improves on those mistakes the Tau army will be very difficult to face. My list looked something like this:

Wolf Lord - TH, SS, Runic Armor, Jump Pack

8x Skyclaws w/ flamer and power fist.

2x 10 man Grey Hunter Packs w/ 2x PG, WS, PA in Rhino w/ DB

Rune Priest with JotWW and LL

9 man Grey Hunter pack w/ Flamer, WS, PA in a Drop Pod

5x Wolf Scouts w/ Meltagun

Vindicator w/ SS

6x Long Fangs pack w/ 3x ML, 2x Lascannon

Jaws didn't do much on its own but the threat of it basically won me the game I believe. He hid his Riptide in the furthest corner of the board and basically parked it there for most of the game. I landed my drop pod on top of a pack of pathfinders and wiped them out. He had a second pathfinder pack that he outflanked which never actually contributed to the game - I doubt this happens again.

He was busy trying to deal with my drop pod Hunters / Rune Priest which allowed me to advance the two Rhinos, the Vindicator, and the Skyclaws w/ Wolf Lord. The Wolf Lord crashed into a large pack of Fire Warriors and tore them apart. The Vindicator managed to kill Shadowsun's bodyguard team which were improperly protected (he positioned the shield drones to cover the Long Fangs, which allowed the Vindicator to get behind the bodyguards). He had another squad of fire warriors which took some frag blasts from my Long Fangs, failed their leadership check and promptly ran off the board.

After the initial route, I spent the rest of the game withstanding his fire. He managed to wipe out my Rune Priest and his Grey Hunter pack, but he spent way too much time doing it. My skyclaw pack was also obliterated but I moved the Wolf Lord over to another Grey Hunter pack, which was also wiped out before the game ended. He managed to do a number through shooting but I already had complete control of the board by that time and it was too late for him. Not having markerlights really hurt him.

Also he brought an Aegis Defense Line which I captured and used to cover my Grey Hunters from his shooting, forcing him to take a lot longer to finish them off then it should have.

He also had the new bomber that the Tau have... I went in to the game with the plan of ignoring it. As luck would have it, I uncovered a mysterious objective which granted my Grey Hunter pack the skyfire rule, and they were within 12" of the rear armor. My two plasma guns and 8 boltguns took it out of the sky the second turn it was on the board - it didn't kill anything.

Overall a great game for the Sons of Russ, but I seriously doubt it'll be this easy next time.

Nicely done! What about your scouts? Do they worth taking against gun line armies?

My scouts did a BEL behind an Ion-Hammerhead, hit with a meltagun shot but failed due to him passing his cover save, then the Hammerhead moved away and the scouts died advancing on his kroot squad (which was fine since it distracted him from my Grey Hunters).
