You know what, I have to echo the opinions of others. They are just enough realistic, just enough fantastic, just enough comic book to make them really FIT with the 40k universe. A fluid mixture of pop and subdued colour and shading. Superb, fantastic, amazing, excellent, extraordinary, exemplary, or just plain awesome.

Anyone else find it ironic that one of the nicest, most compassionate, heroic chapters is one of the ones that literally looks to be evil by nature? That black skin / red eye thing has to be off putting for any guardsmen or civilian not acquainted with the chapter's particular genetic quirk. Also, does anyone else imagine these guys all sounding like Keith David (Goliath from Gargoyles)? Or is that just me?

Thank you very much for your compliments. The appearance and gene seed defect was some of the things that attracted me to the Salamanders chapter, as well as thier cultural beliefs and combat doctrine. I have also read Nick Kyme's, Tome of Fire books which has been a huge source of inspiration. I hope to build a fairly large force, and one day the entire 2nd Company!

Hi B&C

Been a while since my last update (currently in the middle of a degree so my hobby time is limited, but a short break from studies at the moment so time to cram some painting in!)

Here's my Rhino to accompany 2nd Tactical squad. C&C welcome :)

PS I'll take some closer shots of the gunner soon.

Wow, that's a whooole lot of battle damage.

Very pretty, but I feel like it's a bit cartoony, too.  The damage appears to be almost entirely large and clear and neatly highlighted.  While that looks good, I think it could help to have some tinier sponge damage that just peppers here and there, to add some messy n' gritty damage.  When it's all painted like that, it almost looks like camouflage more than chipping.

Just my two bits.  It's still super pretty, just not quite perfect  ;)

Firepower, I always admire your honesty and constructive criticism. I want the army to have the look of being on a long hard fought campaign, hence the considerable battle damage. I do agree with you about applying some finer battle damage though. This was a fairly experimental piece, so the feedback is always appreciated. Currently working on a Stormtalon.

Thanks for all the kind comments.

@ skawolf - I wanted the sgt's to stand out a bit. I like how the Ultramarines sgt's for example have a red helmet, and I wanted to apply the same approach to mine.

@ Darth Potato - For the dust and sand effects I use AK Interactive: Dust Effects, and AK Interactive: North Africa Dust (Powder). I do this as the last stage and then used a Vallejo matt varnish airbrushed on to seal it. http://www.ak-interactive.com/inicio/

@ furioso-prime - The black skin tone is a base of black with gradual lighter shades to highlight it. Then a dark grey to bring out the fine highlights.

@ BLOODSAINT - Thanks. Was really pleased with how he came out.

@ Shas'o Simon - Cheers mate. Looking forward to meeting you in battle!

@ our_baz - Thank you. I'm currently working on a Stormtalon. I might even start up a thread in the WIP section.

@ Capitano - Thanks. The Tome of Fire books have given me a lot of inspiration, including the eyes.

This is the same reason why I am back to Salamanders however after looking at your models im half wanting to go hide mine away never to be seen in public and half really inspired to get on with alot of the hightlighting etc that needs to be done after speed painting my army in a week for a gaming event.
