Primus Medicae Outfitting

Evening folks!

Before I get to painting my new couple of apothecaries, I wanted to get the general consensus on what the optimal loadout for a Primus is. Like many new HH players, I'm starting with a "Pride of the Legion" list (also, because Terminators are *the* business, and my favorite models by far) so my first idea was to try one in a squad of Cataphractii that may or may not end up as a bodyguard for my Praetor. Giving the forums a once over, I couldn't find any other list that had really tried it. My proposed idea would be this guy in a squad of 7-8 Cataphractii with with a heavy flamer, a couple lightning claws and a mix of combi-bolters in a Spartan. It seems like he would make the already tough Cataphracts even harder to shift with only a shade over 100pts. While I do realize FNP wouldn't apply to anti-tank weapons like lascannons and whatnot, it would give them an extra +5 save against plasma shots, and the occasional Fury of the Legion from a misjudged charge.

Primus Medicae - 102 pts

Cataphractii Armor

Chainfist

Combi-bolter

Are there any glaring flaws I'm missing? While I know the squad will be a decent points sink, he really seems like a worthwhile investment.

Thanks for the help!

I'm a little confused so help me out here....do you have a praetor as well as a Primus medicae?

As you already know this is a point sink so I won't beat a dead horse. However I feel that the Primus medicae works better with multiple suicide squads as per his special rule to win VPs back.

He does work really well in your rites of war though. I would advise sticking him in with a few groups of veteran tacticals though as you can lose a VP to your opponent if all your vets get killed.

Well one thing is certain your cost is off. A Primus Medica in Cataphractii Armor with a chain fist is 130pts, not 102pts. Thats Centurion - 50pts + upgrade Primus Medica - 35pts + Cataphractii Armor and combi bolter - 35pts + Chain Fist - 10 pts = total - 130pts

I think a Jump Pack PM would be better suited to this role, and just try to keep him out of a squad, out of LoS.

I think for a Terminator PM, I'd go as bare-bones as possible.  You definitely don't want to accept a challenge with him, and you want him to Look Out, Sir, as often as possible to keep him alive.  Maybe a combi-weapon? Something to give a little shooting to an otherwise assault-y squad.

Nice! See, this is why I post stuff first. You guys are like spell check for warhammer lists.

Now, I'm off to build my Spartan!

Yes this is why I love BaC ;)

Building a Spartan is a noteworthy endeavor. Be sure to bring extra patience and super glue when building it. I nearly shed man-tears when I didn't perform the necessary rites of proper gluing when I started. Now my spartan is a monster and with some primer over it can survive gravity tests....d'oh
