My theory about the two missing Primarchs

I'm guessing that they rebelled against the Emperor.  Long before the Heresy, they turned on the Imperium and were defeated.  They were either executed or thrown into a deep deep cell on Terra never to be hear from again and they were erased from history.  The remainder of their legions who remained loyal, were broken up and mixed into the legions, the Ultramarines receiving a great deal of them.  When the Heresy happened, the traitors were defeated but they escaped and the Emperor was taken out of events, so others had to make the decision.  Because they were still out there and knew the Imperium would have to deal with attacks from them in the future, it was impossible to erase them from history.  This would explain why the lost two are erased out of history but the others are just excommunicated traitors.

Or they could just still be in the Warp, weren't the Primarchs scattered throughout the warp in the first place before entering realspace? The Warp is a crazy place after all and I am pretty sure that the demons won't be handing out road maps anytime soon. Come to think of it making road maps for the Warp would be a hot business, since the Warp is constantly changing you need to constantly update the roadmaps and people need to constantly buy new road maps!

Typher: I believe he was indeed hinted to be a primarch back in the days when warhammer and warhammer 40k were actually connected, it was also hinted at during the albion campaign (where 40k items were found as artifacts - high elves found power armour IIRC)

yeah, but if I remember correctly I think it was thorpe that tried to squash the theory.

In what I have read the twin primarchs of the alpha leigon were visited by what is known as the cabal a colection of xenos and humans one was like the emperor in size and mental power and showed them a vision of the futuer this is one of the lost primarchs who sided with the xenos as they showed him the greater threat of chaos and the ctan or the star gods.

I just wonder why, knowing how fickle the Warp is, one of the lost Primarchs didn't come out the warp earlier/later than going in...possibly one was wiped cos the Emp faced down his son, then centuries later realised that this guy was actually a Primarch so made him anyway and just didn't do his Legion.

But thats musing on my part. Oh, and Sigmar is a Primarch...

That was in the novel Legion. And I don't remember any human like members in the Cabal other than an Eldar.

LOL, you could even say that upon discovery, they hid the fact that the missing Primarchs were somehow changed into Females, and they hid that from the Emperor and their legion for X number of years. And when the Emperor found out ............. name me a father who is happy when discovering his son is actually a daughter. sick.gif

In all seriousness, we may never know. I think the original posters idea has more merit, as opposed to the two unknwon legions being corrupted by chaos early on. If they were corrupted by chaos, chances are the other Primarchs would be more aware of the dangers of chaos rather than being idiots when encountering them for first time. Unless you accept the hypothesis that Leman Russ and the Sixth Legion was the one who executed the two legions which is why the Space Wolves DO know about the nature of chaos. But this is a whole new can of worms which I regret opening right now. wallbash.gif

Well from what I gather from reading the books is that all the legions were found, 2 did something to make daddy angry (worse than Kurze or Angron) so they were destroyed and deleted..... Now I wanna know just how bad were they? What would cause them to get the Axe but psychotic Kurze and Angron were left to lead their legions until the fall.

Hasn't it been stated multiple times throughout the Heresy Novels that the Missing Legions (or at least their Primarchs) were purged by their brethren due to some unspeakable act/attitude? Why else would their statues be removed from the plinths? If they'd simply been lost or killed in battle, paying them hommage would be pretty much guaranteed.

Everything about those 2 Legions is a guess, so I will try to elaborate it in a more open-minded manner than the traditional "Emperor is EVILLLLL" kind of thing.

1) The missing Legions Primarchs became Chaos servants before they were discovered and declared war on the Imperium, which they lost. In the same fashion, they were so mutated by Chaos that they couldn't even be called human anymore, too mutated gene (Gene scenario).

2) The missing Primarchs were absorbed by Chaos and lived in the Warp (with any effects this could have on them, as they could still be alive as Daemons and unrecognisable)  instead of just transfered to a different point on the map.

3) They could have indeed been eradicated because of unknown reasons which made them an exception among the currently known Primarcs so extreme that they surpassed Angron (imagine what we are talking about, not simply making it through the mountain of Trial but something horrendous)

4) They are still considered missing because they were simply truly never found.

5) In any of the above mentioned cases, their Astartes were added to the ranks of the UM or eradicated as well if the gene scenario is true.

There may be more, but I guess those cover most assumptions we can make with what we already know.

The theory about the Ultramarines getting whatever Legionnaires remained from the expunged Legions is very, very unreliable, it's authors are Word Bearers, and they bear (sorry) as much love for the Ultramarines as I do for brussel sprouts. Don't take it for granted. Not even for a likely possibility.

Also, if the Missing Primarchs did indeed rebel against the Imperium, my bet is that only their Terran Marines might've been spared.

Still, seeing as the 'unthinkability' of Marine vs Marine and Primarch vs Primarch is so often brought up in the novels, an open rebellion is unlikely, else the characters would be all "Here we go again" instead of being shocked by the very idea of fighting their brothers.

It's more likely that the lost ones practiced an act so vile that the Emperor decreed Exterminatus on their arses.

Say, like the culling of their homeworld, right Perturabo?

I like to think that one along with his Legion suffered so much rampant mutation that his Legion was purged and the Primarch was locked into cold storage. Now the other Primarch, I like to think is in the possession of a certain Necron collector, and his Legion was wiped out by forces from without at a time when the Imperium couldn't afford for the godly Legions to lose.

In the Horus Heresy: Betrayal book, there is a map which in the Galactic south west there is a point noted as "Finding of the lost son" or something similar. I'm not sure what else that could apply to.

Likely Alpharius, whose homeworld is never known.

I still hold that one of the lost Primarch's was Sigmar. I giant of a man uniting the people on his planet. Going toe to toe with a Greater Demon.... has to be a primarch. I don't care what they say.

Me too. No matter what GW or BL will reveal about them two - for me, until the end of my days, one of the missing Primarchs will be Sigmar.

Agreed, I didn't mean it is a high probability that the UM did this since Word Bearers are not the biggest UM fans, but I simply took even that in consideration when posing some views other than the so-called "Emperor is EVIL. That's my argument" type of thing.

My idea for one of the missing Primarchs is thus.

So all of the Primarchs exhibit one of the Emperor's characteristics, but to a greater degree.

One aspect I don't think is shown as dominant in any of the current Primarchs is Justice (a lot of them are justbut it none exemplify it)

So the Primarch (Who I dubbed Minos) was the living embodiment of Justice, and started the great war fighting orcs and other such evil alien races, but then he encountered Eldar.

At first they entered into negotiations with the Eldar to determine what kind of creatures they were and found they were humanoid but xenos. Minos didn't have a problem with them and created the beginnings of an alliance. But before anything solid could form, word came from the Emperor that they were an alien race and must be destroyed.

Minos didn't agree and could not justify attacking such a noble and cooperative race. And so he did the unthinkable. Minos disobeyed the Emperor.

The Emperor soon found out of this betrayal and sent demands and set sanctions on the Minos chapter - The Bulls of Terra. He pushed them into conflict with other "peaceful" races, expecting them to bend to his will.

Minos didn't.

Reports were falsified and sent to Terra, telling of genocide and glorious expansion in the name of the Emperor.

All the time, the Bulls of Terra evacuated friendly xenos and prepared to flee with them into another galaxy.

As the truth slowly unfolded, the Space Wolves were sent to descend upon the Bulls of Terra with all the fury of an avenging father.

Most of the xenos and Bulls had fled, and only a rearguard of the elite echelons and the Primarch himself stood to cover the retreat, when the Wolves struck.

The Bulls of Terra were famed for their resilience and intractability and the legionaries left were all clad in heavy duty terminator armour. The Wolves assaulted from drop pods and gunships, slogging across the open ground before the mighty fortress of Knosus, were the Bulls were making their stand.

For hours the Wolves threw themselves at breaches made in the walls by mighty vindicators and orbital bombardments, but the force shields that sheltered the city still held. Empowered by the will of the psykers that remained. Finally, almost a full day after the fighting had started, the Wolves, led by Russ himself broke through a gatehouse in the southern wall and started to fight their way up the main boulevard. They made it to the gates of the palace before Minos and his honour guard descended from the third floor in a mighty crash to bar their way. The fight that followed was bloody and brutal, but as the number of legionaries standing dwindled, all fighting halted and eyes turned to gaze in awe at Russ and Minos.

Russ was hewing with his mighty sword with all the prodigious strength and speed that his father had imbued him with. Too fast for a mortal's eye to follow, the blade flashed in and out and sought any breach in Minos' defences. At every stroke it was met by the hammer that Minos wielded or the titanic storm shield he carried in his left hand. Minos glowed with controlled power. His strength of conviction and certainty of his just cause was fuelling his latent psychic potential and he matched blows with his brother. The exchange lasted half a dozen minutes, with over 1,000 blows being made and countered. When suddenly. A booming gong sounded. Against all expectation, Minos threw his hammer to the ground at Russ' feet, grabbed his shield in both hands, and bull-rushed his counterpart. Russ staggered back, momentarily off guard, as a golden hue grew rapidly around the remaining Bulls, living and fallen, before bursting into a dazzling ray of pure sunlight, as the teleportation-spell that the librarians had been rushing to finish came to culmination. The Bulls had fled and the way after them had been closed and obscured for further travellers.

The Bulls currently reside in another galaxy, where they have built relations with amenable races and terminated incontrovertibly hostile ones, and they rebuild their strength and alliances in preparation for the great final battle that they know must surely come.
