Rune Priest Ridcully
I have thought about using some Fenrisian wolves, and whilst I like the models, they are quite expensive, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a good priced alternative? Wulfebane
Cardboard cutouts...?Any alternatives bearing any sort of likelihood to fenrisian wolves will be similarly priced unless you can luck out on ebay. dswanick
GW sells TLotR Wild Wargs - $18 for 6. Mythicast used to carry packs of wolf minis, but i don't currently see them on the website. Durfast Spiritwolf
The Wild Wargs mix in very well, I think, but the price is normally the same per model. dswanick
The Wild Wargs mix in very well, I think, but the price is normally the same per model. Uhh, Wild Wargs are $18 for 6 = $3@ Fen.Wolves are $25 for 5 = $5@ You might be thinking of Fell Wargs, which are $30 for 6 = $5@. Wulfebane
I guess if you're into that sort of necessity for saving a couple bucks (wrong game imo) you could go with chaos warhounds at $25 for 10. You could, but they require some more modeling work to get looking right and they don't come with the proper base (an additional expense). But look at it this way. By doing Wild Wargs instead of Fen.Wolves, if you fielded just 1 full strength unit of 15 you save $20 and have 3 more models. If you wanted to play a Canis crazy list of 6 units as Troops, you're saving $180. Greylocke
There's a company called Iron Wind Metals that makes a 25mm Wolf Pack (7 models) for $18.50. That would be about $2.65 per mini. Link: http://ironwindmetals.com/store/ Or Ral Partha has a 7 wolf pack for £9.95. Sorry I'm a barbaric American and don't know what the conversion is. Link: http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/ You would still have to base them, but instead of buying pre-made GW bases you could cut your own from balsa wood with a compass or template and a sharp hobby knife. With a little sand paper and elbow grease you could even bevel the edges as well! Hey,sometimes going inexpensive requires a little more work, right? For Russ! The Sandman
For my shall we say more renegade space wolves, I've used the fantasy vampire counts dire wolves. Double the models in the box for 50 pence price increase in comparison to the fenrisian wolves from GW when I bought them. That and they look fairly threatening to boot Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/274249-cheap-fenrisian-wolves/#findComment-3351794 Share on other sites
Deathscream
Ridcully, have you tried Amazon.com? I saw 4 boxes on there not to long ago for about 20 US dollars each... Grey Mage
Go to the kids toystore at your local mall. The one with the puzzles, plushies, and lego-knockoffs all over the place. They have little animals there. Check it out- if youre lucky you can find ones about the right size for .75 cents to a dollar a piece, glue to a base, and voila! DanPesci
goblin wolves are a good cheap way of playtesting whether you want to use fenrisian wolves long term, without having to cough up lots of cash. Id really like more FW in my army, but at 5 models a box, its expensive and i feel your pain! irwit
Surely chaos hounds? You get 10 for the price of 5 fenrisin wolves and the models are so much better ! Kassill
GW sells TLotR Wild Wargs - $18 for 6. Mythicast used to carry packs of wolf minis, but i don't currently see them on the website. Yeah, I messaged him a few months back asking if they still made him and he said sadly no. Though he did say he was hoping to bring them back at some point, his focus was on other products. I've got a few (came with the "War Wolf" mounts) and I'm just wondering how off they will look with GW fen wolves.
