Brainstorming The Redmaw conversion....

So I would like to get some thoughts on what would be nice for The Redmaw conversion.  Based on the assumption that I will be using the Skin Wolf from Forgeworld, what are your thoughts and processes on the following;

1.  Shattered armor

The skin wolf is quite a massive model and Bran's armor would without a doubt be destroyed when making the transformation.  While I would be easy to represent ruined chest and shoulderpads, I am wondering how to to the legs as they are a solid piece.  My first thought was casting partial parts of the leg so I could create shells of the leg armor but not sure if that would actually work.

2.  Black carapace

The skin wolf is very much covered in the remains of what was clothes.  However, i am thinking that with some manipulation of some greenstuff and some plastic rod that the plugs and attachment points could be modeled on the tattered remains to rep the black carapace.  This might also tie in with how there appears to be some spike wrist armor on the skin wolves obviously placed there after the transformation.  With some greenstuff modeling I think it could be shifted to look like a clinging bit of forearm ceramite or gauntlet.

3.  Base size

I am thinking with the FAQ detailing him as a MC now, the minimum size base would be the same as a dreadnought or TWC.  I would not propose him going with the oval stuff used on the big bugs from the tyranid line or GK dreadknight/Tau Riptide.

Thoughts/comments?

Your thoughts echo mine exactly (I plan on doing the same conversion, one day...), but I'm definitely interested to hear any other suggestions people have.

Regarding the shattered armour, you could have a suit of power armour lying on its back behind Bran, kinda like the shedded exoskeleton of a cicada (perhaps not so intact - have it visibly cracked open - but you get the idea).

I'm a little weirded out by the prospect of having intact power armour still attached to Bran, that somehow scaled up with him. I'd limit any clinging armour on him to shards (or perhaps bits dangling from cords etc).

Maybe some of the joint parts may stretch. The knee and elbow parts for example. But pretty much the rest would break at the places where the plates connect. Down the back for the bottom leg parts IIRC.

Having some connectors showing after transforming sounds disturbing. So good :tu:. Makes me think of the part on the Matrix when Neo gets unplugged.

Well, he's wearing the space wolf equivalent of artificer armor, wich I assume is costum made for him. I am planning to further model and paint my Bran Redmaw with a black line running along the (removed) mould line of the legs and chestpiece, representing a breakline where his armor would pop open, fall away to be recovered later. My Redmaw model is still walking around with the wolftooth necklace, the belt-icon of Bran's belt of russ, and his axe in one giant paw. As for base size, I am going with a terminator base. Large enough.

As soon as i have the bits to model the axe on my Redmaw, I'll post some pictures.

I think it says that there are 'rumours' of him transforming into a giant wolf like creature.

Looking at doing the same conversion myself, once i have cash for a skinwolf :) i really like the idea of the black carapace. I was also going to try doing some armour fragments but now someones mentioned the fact it wouldnt really stretch, i may jsut stick to the carapace and a few fragments on the base.

For the guy he's holding, would love to do a xeno conversion here, but may jsut stick a guardsmen head on to begin with :D

I picked up the favourite Skinwolf recently myself.

Just a reminder, but if you plan on having any armour left on him or scattered on the base, the non-Wulfen version has Runic Armour.

He's well down the project list, but I pull out the packet every one in while to mull over options...
