Apocalypse - Renegade Mechanicus meets the might of the wolf

Well met Wolf brothers.

I had my first apocalyptic encounter yesterday - although, did have to partner with the xenos Eldar to bring a force raised from the heart of Mars from the brink of chaos. The renegade forces seized the initiative - I'm embarrassed to admit. In their first volley, I lost a squad of terminators, rune priest and a full squadron of Longfangs.

Having withstood heavy fire on his advance, The aged warrior - Greywolfe - armed with a thunder hammer and storm shield trudged in his terminator armour to the closest renegade dreadnought - a most venerable beast! The machine swung wildly, missing all of its flurry. for an elder wolf, the greywolfe remains surprisingly agile. In his return blows, he struck three times - blowing up the dreadnought in a single round of combat. To his shame, Greywolfe was so busy pounding his hammer into the shattered armour of his enemy that he failed to defend himself as it exploded.

Wolf Priest Locke and his squad of close combat wolf guard, in power armour it should be noted, destroyed a dreadnough in their first round. I highly recommend thunder hammers against the metal of a dreads armour! They went on to destroy another in the second round.

Whilst Greywolfe did return from the battlefield, I can vouch for the fact he did seek out a glorious death - today was not his day. He honoured the Space Wolf name in his attempt though. The Priest Locke fell to the hands of a Venerable Dreadnaught, as did all but two of his squad.

A further squadron of terminators embarrassed themselves in close combat with a renegade tech marine, and his servitor thrauls. The squad of 5 was unworthy of their armour - and their names have been struck from our roster.

The Xenos Eldar targeted our drop pod with a super heavy weapon, destroying it with a great explosion.

After 6 hours, and two rounds of combat, the renegade army of the Mechanicus saw the error of their ways, accepting their defeat and agreeing to return to work for the might of the imperium.

It was approximately 5k points on either side.

Renegade army -27 dread naughts - contemptor, venerable and standard, and a boat load of tech marines and servitors.

wolf contingent - 10 terminators, 8 wolf guard in power armour, lone wolf, wolf priest, rune priest, 6 long fangs, razor back, land raider redeemer.

3 Super heavy - shadow sword, bane blade and Eldar viper (?)

Eldar contingent - .... Xenos. Who cares?

That sounded like a fun game, good to read that some people are still playing Apoc.

It has been a long time since I played an apoc game, the insanity, the mayhem and the hilarity have given me some of my most memorable games. 30k chaos infantry against an Ork Speed freak army, it took about 3 hours just to move the chaos army.  Loyalists and Tau vs Chaos and ork in a combined game of Cities of death and Apoc, making it into a mayhem of close combat fights and drive by flaming, seeing Warhounds and other super heavies getting blown up by melta bombs and vortex grenades by suicidal infantry and characters. Apocalypse is where heroes are created.

And killed just as quickly as if they were a George RR Martin character.

I lost 2 character out of 3 in the game. It was pretty impressive! The rune priest was wiped out in turn 1 (before he even moved!). The Wolf priest made it to the OPs turn 3 in close combat with a pair of dreadnaughts - one venerable, one not. The Lone Wolf survived the full game, even having gone toe to toe with a venerable dread.

It was as surprising to me as it was to the OP that he just couldn't kill these "squishy little men" with his "mighty dreadnaught army". I think it amused me more than it amused him though.

I'm pricing up a War Hound now. That'll teach him to field such a touch army.

Sounds fun! I love lone wolves in apocalypse..in fact..i always try and take them if i can in normal points games

I played a 4k floorpocalypse last friday against my housemate (he lurks on the dark angels forum on here - and took dark angels with a baneblade). After he severly crippled my chances of a win after blowing up my logan land raider on turn 1, my lone wolf exacted some revenge (after they killed shaggydog, his faithful fenrisian companion), by single handedly killing 7 deathwing terminators, including the champion with a halberd, a terminator librarian, and belial.

Other great moments for me...

arjac and 4 combi WG land in a drop pod, and in one round of shooting kill and entire ravenwing knights squad, despite them having a 4+ jink AND feel no pain cos of some pesky dark angels banner.

However, ezekiel than hit arjac with mindworm - not great - i did point out to ross that having the wolf tooth necklace did mean that arjac would still hit on 3's in combat, however he then took another round of shooting and died before this could happen.

In the same turn, a dreadnought in lucius pattern drop pod managing to shoot/charge a second ravenwing knights squad, and kill 4 of them...unfortuantely with hit and run..it meant that they could just run away, swing round the back of him, and krak grenade/plasma the crap out of him. Annoying, but i could see the fun side :D

Bad things for me

- Didnt even scratch the baneblade. But it didnt do too much damage due to some really bad imperial guardsman shooting :)

- A landraider, with a techmarine inside that fixes hull points, which also carries a banner bearer that gives EVERYTHING within 12" of it feel no pain, and ALSO has a force field generator, giving both the landraider and the baneblade sat next to it a 4+ Invulnerable save....is quite frankly ridiculous  to deal with haha.

Called it at the end of turn 4 due to it being 4 in the morning, we both held 2 objectives so called it a fair draw.

Never have finished a full apoc game, but every single one has been a win.  I remember one when I was playing tau, a baneblade shot at Farsight and his full bodyguard squad.  Every single one rolled their inv. save and then went to tear ass in the back lines killing chaos vehicles and special characters without losing a man.  Then my 6 squads of fire warriors took down 4 squads of chaos terminators who deep striked around an objective.

Another game my space wolves Masters of the Chapter, terminator squad, Njal, and Ulrik the Slayer were holding the back in 2 land raiders waiting for the chance to move up and start killing.  A demon army of Khorne and Nurgle showed up at our rear trying to take our objective.  They were met with the fury of fenris with greater and lesser demons being killed in handfuls every turn.  My favorite part was when Njal, in one turn, jawed the bloated greater demon of nurgle that led the nurgle portion, then killed the greater demon of Khorne in melee.  None of my people survived, but it kill enough and buy enough time for us to turn our heavy weapons on the demons.

What in god's name was that Lone Wolf equiped with! He surely brought the might of Fenris down on them.
