Sanguinius and Ka'bandha at the Eternity Gate

Does anyone else think that BL may change the duel with Sanguinius and Ka'Bandha at the Eternity Gate? When Sanguinius came face-to-face with Ka'Bandha in 'Fear to Tread' it seemed that Sanguinius completely overpowered/out skilled him after he awoke from his 'physic coma'. IIRC in the old lore the Daemon left Sanguinius broken on the battlefield but in 'Fear to Tread' it was Sanguinius who defeated the Daemon in the Temple of Bones (I think it was the Temple of Bones). I don't know if it's me reading too much into it but I've got the vibe that they are setting it up for Sanguinius and Angron to have a showdown, I keep reading how powerful Sanguinius is and how Lorgar saved Angron because he was the only one would have a chance against Sanguinius.

I personally would love this happen, having Sanguinius breaking Daemon Angron over his knee after a mind blowing duel in front of the World Eaters/Forces of Horus and banishing him to the Warp.

Does anyone else think this or would like this to happen?

First, I've fixed the title. There aren't any "spoilers" here - just speculation. Also, I'm moving this to the Horus Heresy forum.

From The Horus Heresy - Collected Visions:

"A huge shape rose up from amongst the army of Horus. The creature was tall, taller than any around it and as it rose up it unfolded its great leathern wings and took to the air. It was a Bloodthirster, greater daemon of Khorne, the most fearsome and dangerous of the Bloody God's entourage. The daemon flew towards Sanguinius and he recognised it instantly - its name was Ka'bandha and he had fought the creature before.

Atop the Ultimate Gate two mighty figures clashed in aerial combat. Both were winged - the Angel's wings were pure white and shone brightly through the smoke and smog of war about, the other was a creature of nightmare, its daemonic wings leathery and dark. AS they wheeled about each other in the air, the warring troops below seemed to pause to watch the unfolding drama.

'Know this, creature of darkness, I will take my revenge on you for past evil,' the Angel said as he plunged his sword into the daemon's face, spearing one of its eyes. The daemon shrieked as if in pain but wheeled about lashing at the Primarch with its whip and chopping at him with its great axe. The daemon's whip stung the Primarch's wing and he faltered in the air slightly. As he did so the Bloodthirster grabbed him by the throat with its massive taloned fist. Sanguinius cut with his sword against the daemon's flank - the beast flinched but did not release its hold.

'Now you are finished pathetic little bird,' rumbled the daemon and he threw the Primarch down onto the gate below. The granite stonework splintered as the Primarch's body smashed into it. The traitor horde watching roared their approval. The Primarch lay still upon the broken stone as the daemon landed next to him and prepared to deal the deathblow. The monstrous creature threw back its head and let loose a howl of exultation.

'Blood for the Blood God! A Skull for the Skull Throne!'

As the daemon howled in triumph over him, Sanguinius drew upon his last reserves of strength and power. With a massive effort, he painfully rose to face Ka'bandha for the last time.

Your cry of victory is mistimed daemon. I am not finished. My vengeance has yet to be taken. I shall not fall at this hour, nor to your bloodied hand.' At this, Sanguinius leapt at the daemon and seizing it by the wrist and ankle he raised the beast up high and smashed it down across his knee. The crack of its back breaking shook the masonry upon which they stood and echoed across the Palace grounds, the hordes below watching in silence.

Sanguinius, now terrible in his aspect, lifted the carcass of the daemon above his head. An arc of power danced on his brow as he swung the body around and hurled the broken behemoth into the midst of the daemon's followers. The traitors beat their chests and wailed in dismay. The Blood Angels cheered and the Ultimate Gate was shut tight against the ravening hordes."

So the earlier lore doesn't have Ka'bandha leaving Sanguinius "broken on the battlefield" in the Siege of Terra. What happened was more the equivalent of Agent Smith throwing Neo into a wall, stunning him momentarily, and then having Neo get up and kick his digital hiney. This kind of narrative is necessary so that the battle doesn't appear one-sided - if it was overly easy, the Primarchs would look too powerful and the situation wouldn't look as desperate for Mankind. I would speculate that the Horus Heresy novels will retain this largely intact, though we may see small revisions/elaborations here and there. After all, it isn't long after this incident that Sanguinius joins the Emperor in teleporting aboard the Vengelful Spirit where he will face his destiny in battle with his brother, Horus. From a literary storytelling perspective, he needs to be (relatively) intact and combat-ready for this (final) event.

And Angron survives the Siege of Terra. Sang needs to have his 'Bane breaking the Bat' moment, so it seems unlikely his brother will be replacing Ka'bandha.

The Red Angel who appears at the end of Fear to Tread, on the other hand, seems likely to have a face off with Sanguinius at some point.

about the spoiler  : Isn't this mentioned in a short story about the flesh tearers ?where one is xperiencing flashbacks from the primarch or something

On topic, Sanguinius was fairly pissed in his second confrontation with the daemon, and maybe he was empowered by drinking blood..

At the battle of terra, I think Sanguinius will have had his share of the fighting before facing the daemon again...

Maybe Angrath' will take Ka'bandha place at the siege, but fairly I think it'll stay the same

At Terra, Sanguinius wins.

In the original stuff for Signus Prime, Sanguinius is supposed to lose horribly and the reason the daemons are beaten is because the blood angel legion destroy them whilst in the fit of a legion wide black rage.

In the new stuff Sanguinius loses at first, but then lays the smack down on Ka'bandha whilst still on Signus Prime.

What the OP is suggesting is that now that Sanguinius has already laid the smack down on Ka'bandha, it will have less meaning at the Eternity Gate, so perhaps instead BL will replace Ka'bandha at Eternity Gate with someone else.

Worth noting that if Ka'bandha was replaced by Angron, it could still happen the exact same way, with Sanguinius breaking Angrons back and throwing him back into the warp, as warp entities cannot truly die, so Angron is free to return later anyway. That being said, I highly doubt that the BL team would go this route.

Thanks for clearing my post up, seems confusing now re-reading it :)

Actually that's a great idea and I think you're on to something here.

Maybe with the death of sanguinius, the little kernel of the apothecary overcomes his red angel side. He is probably a daemon of sorts but becomes a personal daemon of the BAs in a good sense. Now while there's much speculation as to "benevolent" warp entities, the sanguinor may become one.

And it's not unreal as people have overcome demonic possession in 40k lore before. Reference the illuminiati

The only reference for Sangunius vs Angron is a stare-off across the battlefield, just before the passage quoted earlier in the thread (which I think HH:CV quotes from the orginal Siege of Terra story). Will be interesting to find out what "really" happened as it's kind of described as a psychic meeting of minds:

Ang:"Blood for the Blood God!! Skull for the Skull Throne!!!"

Sang: "Blood for...Dad? What remains of your messed up skull for the Golden Throne!!! In fact, those nails look like USB 30.000231's..."

Will be interesting to see if they keep that in there,

especially now that Angron is a Daemon Primarch for the Siege, makes it harder to believe he backs down from that fight.
