sponsra
So, many recent release are in hardback format. Limited edition? - ok, I can wait. Audio-drama? - ok, I can download and listen. But for the books on my shelf I want them to be all small paperback, but it seems to be a timelaps between hard and paperback releases. I guess BL want me to buy the more expensive bigger books. But I wont, and now I wonder when the latest installments will come in paperback, Angel extermintaus, Betrayer, Mark of calth. I havent read any othose yet .... Jareddm
Traditionally, it was one year for a hardcover book to have a mass-market paperback release. Black Library is doing a similar approach with the trade paperback coming out 3 months after the hardcover and the mass-market paperback coming out 8 months after the trade paperback, or approximately 11 months to a year in total. The reason this feels so awful is because we were used to the mass-market paperbacks only and so by switching to the traditional format, now that the series has gained popularity Black Library has made it immensely harder for people to keep up to date with the series if they're only buying the mass-market paperbacks. Personally, I'm buying the trade paperbacks because I can't wait, but I plan to get the mass-markets just for collection's sake. Grotsmasha
Also, the smaller paperbacks are discontinued, only large paperbacks from now on. The older books will be rereleased in both large hard and paperback. It would be incredibly unnusual to not release a mass market paperback considering it's long since been the industry standard. EDIT: did some research and found that mass market paperbacks are only discontinued for non-Horus Heresy novels. So the HH will continue to have the three seperate formats. Grotsmasha
While this is good news, it infuriates me that either GW has misinformed it's own employees, or I was lied to straight in the face by an GW employee. Had I'd have known I'd eventually get small paperback, as painful as the wait would've been I'd have waited. Jono So a GW employee told you that the small paperbacks were discontinued and encouraged you to buy the larger (more expensive) version instead? Wonder why they did that? It's a tricky thing to understand because GW aren't really making it very clear. They say it a lot on their Facebook page, and there's an article somewhere on the BL website, but it's not the kind of thing any publisher really sits down and explains to the market, for better or worse. oddball570
Has BL changed their plans since Angel Exterminatus came out? From what i can tell, Angel Exterminatus came out in October 2012, Hardback $30.00 book. It then came out as an ebook $8.00 copy in January 2013. Now i am waiting for the $8 ebook to come out for Betrayer, which came out in December 2012 for the $30.00 hardback. Angel Exterminatus had a ~2 month waiting period for the cheaper ebook edition, and here we are ~6 months after Betrayer and there has been no ebook. Maybe i have my dates wrong, but this really sucks :(.
