Arjac's Anvil Shield question

Warriors of Fenris!

I've recently started running Arjac Rockfist as my second monstrous creature killer, and I've come to a problem.

The text of Arjac's Anvil Shield says: "It is a storm shield that grants Arjac an additional attack in the first round of any assault."

My question is... When exactly is the first round? Is it at Initiative 10? Or at whatever initiative that comes first?

I imagine that the spirit of the rule is that Arjac gets one attack before everyone else, in the hopes of concussive taking them down to Initiative 1. But the wording is vague and.... vague.

How does the Aett run this rule in their games?

Its not like the Wolf Codex is old. Coupled with making sure your FAQ's are up to date its still a decent book. Same goes for Templars after the FAQ's came out and Death from the Skies was released. Just takes some outside the box thinking to get stuff done.

just checked the space wolves blog   http://space-wolves-grey.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/arjac-rockfist-tactics.html  and look what i found about this smasher i couldnt believe it a thrown 6" hammer against a IC,or MC knocks them to iniative one followed by a JOTWW and there gone ....

 Foe Hammer
Strength 10 Thunder Hammer that he can THROW 6". It's a bad idea to base any tactics around this, but it's a nice little extra. It's worth noting that the thrown Thunder Hammer reduces the target's Initiative to 1, which makes it awesome in combination with a Rune Priest casting Jaws Of The World Wolf on a monstrous creature. But let's focus on Arjac's squad leading abilities for now.

Otherwise think of his Thunder Hammer as a power fist style weapon which mops up at the end of a close combat and batters any survivors with Wound Allocation.

Anvil Shield
This gigantic storm shield gives Arjac +1 attack in the first round of close combat. Combine that with his basic 3 Attacks, the +1 attack from charging normally (or counter-charging) and you've for 5 Attacks hitting on 3+ (thanks Wolftail Necklace!). Not bad at all.

Let's not forget he get's a 3+ invulnerable save from this on top of his 2+ terminator armour save.

Jaws of the World Wolf is not a shooting attack, therefore you don't need to roll to hit. Your target gets to make an initiative test to jump out of the way and then if they are playing Necrons get their WBB check....which is kinda lame considering that they just got swallowed by a rift in the ground they are standing on, but hey that is why GW makes the Big Bucks.

how does arjac play out? i plan to try him just hes a big point sink..

He is very expensive, especially compared to other Wolf Guard--but I consider him a "WGBL Lite", if you will, with some nifty unique abilities and bonuses that aren't available elsewhere in the codex.

i used him to kill a baneblade on the turn he came out a drop pod by throwing his hammer at it, was a truly epic moment: threw hammer, hit, got a pen, rolled 5 on the damage table, ap1 so = 6. explodes, loses a structure point. next dice due to explode, roll a six, another explosion! down to 1sp now, roll the last dice from the second explosion............... another 6! thats a dead super heavy!! :p

He seems better than a WGBL to me, personally. I'd say he's more of a wolf lord lite ;)

Something nasty you can try is put a RP with Jaws in the drop pod with Arjac. When Arjac gets out & there is something nasty off by itself, throw the hammer reducing his init to 1 & then Jaws it. I've actually made this work once or twice.Just FYI-your opponents will hate you. LOL!!!
