Zynk Kaladin
Sup dudes and dudettes. I'm setting up a Grey Hunter squad as an allied contingent of my Night Angels(BA 'dex). The setup is 10 Grey Hunters in a drop pod with 2 plasmaguns, an axe, and a banner. Basically this squad slams into an enemy objective and camps it while my assault blob rolls across the board. Anyway, I was wondering where you wonderful flea-infested lowborns place your crass, barbaric, offensive banner? I was thinking the axe GH would be fine because he can't get called out in challenges. Therefore, he usually doesn't enter close combat until the initiative 1 phase where I get to aim him away from danger or where to maximize damage. Or does it not matter and am I over-thinking it? DanPesci
I tend to place the banner on a standard grey hunter, as then one guy isnt taking too much wargear on him (it also means that once the banner is used, you have another 'stock' marine to take wounds before your axe guy. Coming out of a drop pod, with a full pack, you shouldnt need to worry too much about placement unless the opponent has a lot of fast units. Stick him in the middle/back of the pack so he takes saves after others. If the pack gets totally shot up and hes taking wounds, then the usefulness of th ebanner has already been diminished through the rest of the squad already dying, so doesnt matter too much ha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/274854-grey-hunter-banner-placement/#findComment-3362436 Share on other sites
TheLastHuzzah
I've been thinking about this a bit myself, and I agree with you. I run drop pods quite often, and when I do it's always a tough choice to figure out how to place them. If only 3 guys in the squad have special equipment it's fairly easy to insulate them (at least on three sides). Granted, that does make the GH w/ axe & banner prime target for character shooting (if I'm in melee, I've probably already popped the banner).
