Dreadnought Support

Recommended Posts

Call me naive or ignorant but I regularly play my plasmacannon-and-ccweapon-with-flamer-dreadnought pretty much since codex Daemonhunters (now and then switching to assault cannon instead) and even if it may not have performed outstanding ( I don't keep score so I can't provide any statistics) I like my dread that way. The reinforced Aegis has always been awesome against my most frequent opponents CSM/Daemons and Eldar and I really like to fly my dreads in with the Stormraven to tie one extra unit in cc till my dedicated cc units can devote their attention to them. The Plasmacannon helps my GKs with heavy infantry and the flamer reduces the unitsize before I charge to minimize the chance of a lucky grenade hit.

tldr: I like the style of my cc/plasma dreadnought and I don't care if it only performs moderately.

Nothing ignorant about that mate :) You play your models as you like them and if they prove themselves as even semi-decent performers - then you're onto a winner.

I like the aesthetics of Dreadnoughts - I think I just have found myself more in love with their fluff than their actual performances. I've had games in the not too distant past where they were fantastic. Maybe never achieving much - but annoying the heck out of my opponent in some way. I've just had more games where they did little to nothing. I've experimented a lot with them over the years, but in my GK armies I could just never get them to sit well with me. I wish I was content in my unit choice when it came to them, as you are!!!

For now I think I'll keep mine as Psyflemen (Magnets ftw) and play them when long range fire support is required. I'll keep my Plasma Cannon and Assault Cannon arms handy though :P

Knights lack AP2 and true anti-tank

Can't they just charge a tank? With the 30 inch jump they can close the gap well.

While it's true that a Dreadknight up close and personal with tanks and tip them over and play with them like toys, Reclusiarch Darius was referring (As I understood it) to the fact that our Codex, as a whole, lacks AP2 and true anti-tank. While we have answers to armour, many of them are situational, and we lack a true, dedicated AT unit.

Aaaaand thats totally ok as GKs are no meant for tank hunting. As it has been said: we have our ways to deal with tanks but it works a little different as with most other armies which rely on far reaching anti tank weaponry like Lasercannons, Lances and so on. We have to get closer. Either 24" for psicannons, 12" to 6" for our melter or just engage them in cc.

Ah, when I saw the orgional quote, I thought by knights the poster was saying dreadknights and just shortening it, hence my question.

My apologises.
