Thanks for all of the kind words, guys.

Currently on the painting table, a Rhino.

I must say, I've never really liked the Rhino kit. The design is very boring and I really didn't enjoy putting it together. However, now that I have started painting it it is growing on me.

The tank looks a little rough in places as this is its third paint job. It started life as a Predator for my Death Guard before being converted into a Rhino for my Dark Angels and then stripped and repainted to join my Astral Claws. Also, a botched attempt to fill in the ubiquitous gaps along the edges of the tank adds to the roughness of the overall finish. However, I'm not too bothered about this as it is not a display piece and will only ever be used for gaming (if that).

Wow, these are effing awesome! Unbelievable the paint scheme is that simple. Before Betrayal was released my favourite books ever were the Badab War IA.  I started a small Astral Claws army a while ago with the release of IA9&10, since I had amassed modern mark armours while collecting bits for my heresy project. These are as good as I've seen on the B&C and considering how good some of the other Astral Claw logs on here have been that's the highest praise I can give.

The rhino looks really used. So repainting my rhinos two times, I´ll get the same effectwhistlingW.gif

Otherwise the rhino needs a little more pimping, like texts, seals or weathering around the tracks. Metaliic vehicles always look plain in just metallic.

Thinking about just adding some smoke/dust at the exhausts will make look better.

Im impressed how you can make metallic look so smooth, specially on such large areas like a tank.

The rhino isn't finished yet, this is just a work-in-progress photo. Text will be added to the purity seals to match the marines. I also plan on adding more weathering once the basic paint work is done.

Here is my veteran sergeant for my tactical squad. This guy is kit bashed using parts from the captain sprue.

Very nice. I just came across that same old torso recently, and was planning on using it on my Tyrants Legion myself.

Keep it up, brother. The Tyrant needs reinforcements.

Here is an Assault Squad I'm working on. They are based largely around Forge World's MKIV Legion Assault Squad but with other parts added to tie them in with the rest of the force. I didn't like the idea of having a whole squad wearing the same armour type, especially the comparatively rare MKIV.

I've painted up another marine, this time with the lion's head insignia. I'm not 100% sure about this and I'm thinking about maybe replacing it with the Tyrant's Claw symbol. I think it is the yellow that isn't doing it for me. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear more opinions before finishing the rest of the squad.

After having them sat aound

I actually really like the lion's head symbol and I think it goes well with the yellow-ish eye lenses and gold on your Astartes.

After having them sat around on my desk a few days the lion's head has grown on me. Plus it will add some variety to the force.

  • 3 weeks later...

Since my last post I have been quietly working away on this project. Expect a big update soon once I have taken some photos. However, for now here's another marine.

@ Battle-Brother Ludovic - Thanks.

@Styrofoam04 - Thanks. I really like your Red Corsairs. Long live Huron!

As promised in my previous post, I've got quite a large update for you. I have now finished a full Tactical Squad and their Rhino and a five-man Devastator Squad.

I think that they look fantastic. I really do. Clean paint jobs with some nice battle damage here and there. I honestly can't find any faults with your work. And they look great all together too :tu:

Keep it up! :)

Yes, the symbols and squad designations are all decals. I use Micro Sol and Micro Set to get a decent application over the curved surface and then seal them in with a couple of coats of Lahmian Medium. It produces a fantastic seamless result, perfect for that 'painted on' look.
