Tools and Equipment (Spade, Mattock, Crowbar etc)

Recommended Posts

Small chain can be bought from craft shops. If you're lucky you can get interesting shapes/patterns of chain. The Yuzawaya craft store near me has chains made of Templar-like crosses, Norse and Celtic-looking ones.

As for other tools, the Imperial Guard tank accessories sprue has some (as well as other useful bits and bobs). Some Tamiya kits have tools though they may seem a little too large if they're actually placed on a model. On a piece of terrain the size difference might go unnoticed.

I want to be able to use them on models; the idea is to have a Devastator Squad that looks like it's kitted out for extended deployment & digging in, with entrenching tools as equipment on the (non-Heavy Weapon wielding) marines.

I guess I'll have to contact some local IG players.

A couple more ideas:

With some plasticard rod (or leftover spear shafts) and thick card or plasticard sheet you can make yourself some entrenching tools relatively easily.

If anyone you know has any broken jewellery (necklaces, bracelets) that can be a source of free fine chain.

If you can get some cheap modelling clay you can make sandbags with a bit of practice.

I don't really need that many, so I think using the IG Spades will work fine.

I figure the Devastator Squad will have 10 men, 4 of whom have Heavy Weapon specific backpacks or carry extra ammo, one of whom is the sarge with the Signum, which leaves 5.

Two with Entrenching Tools, one with a Mattock (I think I can use a pick head from a fantasy kit), one carrying rope or chain & a grappling hook, which leaves one over.

I'm not sure what to do for that guy - I might buy some modelling barbed wire and have him carry a reel of that
