Sculpting Trophy Skulls

Recommended Posts

Morning folks!

I'm running into a bit of a snag here, and after combing the PCA forums, I can't come up with a similar topic yet.

Does anyone have a good link to a skull sculpting (greenstuff, procreate, milliput etc) tutorial?

I am running out of bits for my nightlords, and I'm going to have to start making my own shortly.  Bonus points to anyone who can show me one for sculpting cat-like skulls. I love using spacewolf bits to "tribal up" my nightlords, but they hunt krag cougars, not giant wolves. At first, it seemed like it would be easy to trim down the wolf muzzle to make a more feline shape, but so far, no luck.

If anyone can show me how to sculpt this: http://www.sciencebuzz.org/blog/bursts/saber-tooth-cat-skull-found-minnesota, I would totally be in internet love with you!

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

While it's not exactly identical to the saber tooth cat skull you want to recreate there is actually a bitz from a GW kits that depict a Xenos skull with the sabe-tooth like appearance. If I'm not mistaken it's the SM scout kit, the one with the Tyranid skull... I'll make some research and I'll try to be more precise.... msn-wink.gif

EDIT:

I found it in one of bitz boxes. I can take a picture of it, if you are interested. I still believe it comes from the SM scouts box.

Nice! That isn't bad. I'd have to extend the muzzle a bit...

@Skorpion - The problem I have is that the space wolf skulls are obviously canine. I've tried shortening the muzzle to give a more feline profile, but they don't come out so hot.

Very much easier, thanks Shep!

*UPDATE*!

New idea! How would this business look if I shaved the girly elf bits off and painted it up like a skull?

Second thought, I love axes. What is the general opinion on these?

Would these look good in a CSM army if I shaved off the gems, or would they look too "weedy" next to the bulky chaos marine chainweapons? I could see just using the axehead with a chain or poweraxe hilt.

Thanks again for the help so far!

I'm glad I helped a fellow Night Lord... I really like Night Lords...they are not the only ones I like but they are among my favorite 40K groups msn-wink.gif

Anyway the Lion shoulder pad idea looks very good.

The Axe is amazing! I used it for a HH conversion (you can see it in my gallery, in the Rampagers conversions folder msn-wink.gif ) and it looks very badass! Just cut the elf hand and glue the rest to the Astartes hand: you just got a very badass Axe.

EDIT:

Also the gems could be used to represent power crystals or other power/energy generating device. You can also paint them with a metallic color and they won't even look like gems ;)
