redmapa
I have a quick question, what do you use to remove the paint off a model and disassemble it? is there a product that does both? I got two LRC that I'd like to re-do from scratch now that Im more experienced with models and paint I live in canada btw thanks! Demus Ragnok
I've used Simple Green cleaner to remove paint. I believe it is available at Walmart and other such retailers. As for ungluing models I haven't been that brave yet. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275022-re-doing-models/#findComment-3364932 Share on other sites
Aqui
In the UK a lot of us use Fairy Power spray, a brand of multisurface cleaner. On plastic, it removes paint easily and if assembled with superglue it does weaken the glue. If the mini is assembled with plastic cement, then it tends to stay together. Not sure what equivalent brands there are in Canada, but if it's available over there, then it does the job very well ^_^ The way I use it: Put models in a jam or marmalade jar and spray models with it. Give a really good shake and put lid on. Leave for 4-24 hours. Add extra if needed later on. Wash models with lots of cold water. Use an old toothbrush to remove the paint. When the model is ready, the paint tends to "bloat" or puff out from the model. Bear in mind that the spray is an irritant and has fairly unpleasant fumes, so best use gloves such as marigolds (not a fashion statement I know o_O although my skin is used to using it so, I don't bother  ) and to make sure the area you work in has opened windows. Use a toothpick to clear out any paint in smaller details. It works well on plastic and metal minis. I haven't used it on Finecast/resin minis so might be best to try on a mini you aren't particularly attached to. Just had a quick search on google. Apparently Dawn Power Dissolver is an equivalent in Canada, possibly just a rebrand. I've also heard that Dettol works just as well, but I've never used it. Hope that helps ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275022-re-doing-models/#findComment-3364939 Share on other sites

Fibonacci
As for disassembling, as long as you used ca glue (super glue™ and the like), you can break it up easily. Overnight in the freezer will pop most joints for you. If you used plastic cement, there is not much you can do with it because the pieces will be physically wielded together. chenley
I tend to use Pinesol, but only on metal minis, as it disolves plastic. Three days soaking in Pinesol and water mix, the paint lifts right off. I have tried it with plastic minis, but it just warps them and turns the plastic to rubber. Anvilarium
It works well on plastic and metal minis. I haven't used it on Finecast/resin minis so might be best to try on a mini you aren't particularly attached to. I've used Fairy Power Spray on FW Resin, it works perfectly - better than it does on plastic in fact! Also, it doesn't soften the resin at all.
