i know i know, i got my Angels of Expurgation, as well as theming out a Tau Marine army. But you see, I am on vacation for 5 weeks, so I have ALOT of time to fluff and paint. Obviously my angels of expurgation take precedence (and i humbly ask everyone to C & C on my angels of expurgation link, i have lots of themes and ideas for them and i need some guidance in fluffing it right).

 

anyways, i was scrolling the lexicanum to kill time, and i came across this picture:

this guy looks epically awesome and sinister to me. Im really loving the drawing and I wanted to theme a warband around him. so a couple questions:

 

1. is he a known character already? or is it a generic picture?

 

2. if generic, what Chaos god do you believe he is a devotee of? or do you think he is chaos undivided?

 

3. should i make him a chaos champion or chaos lord? I am assuming they are basically the same, but a Lord carries more power/mutations and leads a larger warband???? is a chaos champion equivalent to a SM captain and a Chaos Lord the equivalent to a SM Chapter Master?

 

4. would he be a heresy era traitor or more modern? i am thinking modern due to fact he still looks "relatively" human and the Mk8 power armor collar showing in the picture.

 

i think modeling him would be quite fun. just get a bare head with a right side bionic, and greenstuff some small tentacles around his left eye as well as Greenstuffing a tube to his nose, and try to make the teeth look pointy.

 

the beauty of it is there is no picture of his armor outside a spiked shoulder pad, so I can go wild and really make him my own.

1. I'm pretty sure it is just a "generic" picture.

 

2. Personally, when I think tentacles, I think Slaanesh. But that doesn't have to be the case. It could be any. Honestly, its up to you.

 

3. To me, he seems like a champion. Lords I feel are more brooding, while champions may be a bit more proactive/violent. Thats just my opinon though.

 

4. I would say more modern for the reasons you provided.

1. The picture is from the generic lord entry in the 3.5 Chaos codex. So not a character. The picture is slightly bigger, showing the bigger chaos powerplant and some kind of necklace with two human skulls.

 

2. Could be undivided. Could be any god frankly. Nurgle often has tentacles and single horns.Tzeentch has these spiderlegs thingys, double faces, feathers and stuff. Slaanesh has these pincers. But they are not exclusive. It's chaos!

 

3. Chaos Lord can be anything from a sergeant (Constantinus) to a chapter master (Huron) really. Field him like you see fit.

 

4. The mutations and the altered powerplant suggest longer exposure to the warp. But again, could be anything. I don't think it's mk8 armour though. Collars are often added to other Marks too.

1. He's a generic picture from Codex Chaos Marines 3.5

 

2. Dunno, he could be any of the Four, or Undivided.

 

3. Hmm, the distinction seems somewhat vague. I guess a Champion would be leading a warband and a Lord would be one step up, leading bigger armies.

 

4. If he's a survivor from the Heresy era, then I imagine he would have to be much more of a "badass" than the run of the mill Chaos Lords to have survived for so long.

first time i saw this pic was in the eye of terror codex. he was meant to be a champion(leader) for the cultist and mutants. given that his face has some mutation, but not in a themed way, you can file him with any mark. since the whole codex was about abaddon's crusade i would say he is old legion instead of new.  made him a lord. with his face full of tentacles i would say he is highly favoured with the dark gods. mortem ordinaturus

thanks for the input guys. i just realized looking at the picture, he has only ONE EYE. the part that looks like an eye is in fact another tentacle curling around and out of the eye socket. how LOVELY!

 

Canton, yeah i always have ideas going. im a fluff DIY freak. right now my angels of expurgation are my baby and im needing all the help to nurture them. so you and others are most welcome to C and C them.

 

as for the tau marines, i have some ideas, just trying to slim it down. that one will prove most difficult.

 

this guy to me just looks so awesome, i just had to make a story around him.

 

i was thinking he was either chaos undivided or slaanesh. doesnt seem like the khorne or tzeentch kind to me.

 

guessing on his look and armor hes not heresy, but some of you are saying hes possibly an older marine. so maybe i will make him a heresy era marine. but wouldnt he look a little less human if he were heresy era?

 

i picture him like starscream from transformers. NOT the movie or cartoon starscream whose a whiny sometimes bumbler sometimes sinister. but the one in some of the lines of the comics who is a sociopath and very sinister and intelligent. hes a evil sociopathic mastermind in some of the comic lines, like a hannibal lector in a transformer.

 

i see this traitor as brutal and conniving. he is an excellent leader, but extremely malevolent. he has no qualms of backstabbing to get things done his way (although i suppose i just described all traitor marines).

 

im going to equip him with a scimitar and bolt pistol or old style plasma pistol. the warband will be in a dark color, either dark purple or dark blue or charcoal.

 

now i have to decide which chapter he fell from. if heresy he could be EC, or Black Legion. A Night Lord would be fun. he does have that terrorizing violent look to him. i sure would love to make an ultramarine of the heresy era fall, but he doesnt have that look to him LOL.

 

theres so many possibilities, i gotta narrow it down!

 

and if anyone has the larger image detailing his backpack, PLEASE post it. id love to see

I tried to make a picture of it, but I didn't get it sharp enough. I'm kind of a luddite, so I have a really old phone. Sorry!

 

The backpack/powerplant is the regular chaos one.

 

Personally I don't think he's from the legions, but a lord who fell to chaos in the millenia after that. But there are enough heresy-era marines who have hardly mutated.

im thinking of making him either a Night Lord, Black Legion, or Emperors Children. He seems like the type that was always leaning that way, then say a loyalist chapter brother who fell.
