Firing on Gunnery Crews

When firing on a gun crew, like an IG lascannon model with 2 crew, does a blast or template weapon that covers both models in crew cause 1 hit or 2?

 

This has come up in local games where a flamer blast that covers both crew is deemed to cause 1 hit and 1 wound.

 

Is that accurate?

I believe an IG heavy weapons team is treated as a single model with 2 wounds, 2 attacks and all other stats as per normal guardsman.

that is correct, so if any part of the base is hit by a template then it causes a single hit on the team. i suppose the possible problem is with some of the older kits where each of the crew came on their own separate base
