Sons of Horus - The March on Terra

I should have just came clean about casting a few extra heads from the start, I just didn't want to fall foul of any forum rules. I've had mixed results using liquid blu stuff and Sika resin. The missile launcher guys as mentioned are some mk2 heads that have been cast and then needed various repairs. A quick search online will find you anything you want to know about the process.  I'd rather not go into the rights, wrongs and morality of it here. I'm making spares for my own use.

I've been combining mk2 heads with plastic chaos marine legs, torso and converted backpacks as well as FW shoulder pads for budget squads.

I'll try not to show cast parts in future and will happily delete any offending pics should the Mods request it.

Apart from that, anyone like my painting?

Small update;

I've entered the ETL representing the Horus Heresy sub-forum. My pledge is a Centurion Legion Champion, a 5 man Veteran Squad and a Vindicator.

Just a couple of progress shots to show I'm actually working on them.

The Vindicator has received a badab black pin wash and two levels of highlights. Despite this it still looks fairly bland. I'm looking into adding some weathering to try and bring it to life. Not caking it in mud, maybe just a bit rust and streaking. The dozer blade has been prepared to have some freehand Legion themed text and symbols added. Hopefully this will help break up the scheme. I've just realised that I need to tack on a combi bolter somewhere too, but the hatch is glued solid, d'oh!

Next up is a dude I altered the paint scheme slightly on. I gave the whole model a devlan mud wash after the basecoat. This makes him a tiny bit darker but with the wash being brown, a warmer colour than a black wash it kind of brings out the green hues in the basecoat a little more. It's also alot easier than pin washing the recesses with badab as I've done previously. I also painted the iris on the shoulderpad red as a trial to see how difficult it was with my games console inspired 80 year old equivalent arthritic hands. Turns out not too bad. Still need to do the silver metallics on him and a few touch ups.

Cheers guys. I'm hoping to have an update on these later this week.

A few cold beers and 'Nights with Alice' on Planet Rock radio is my preferred method of painting. To some people it's a chore but I think I've found the solution.

Hey guys, small update time.

As some of you may have seen I completed my ETL vow. The finished product;

Now with these fellas completed I came to realize I had nothing much left to paint. I've went and built some veterans with power weapons which could all be used as an HQ if desired. I like how big and chunky mk3 is mixed with mk5 armour. I'm not that keen on mk3 torsos and helmets truth be told, but the legs and shoulder pads are awesome.

Next up I'm going to build Falkus Kibre, the Widowmaker. Will be buying some Reavers soon I think too and equipping them with mk5 jump packs.

I'm aiming to get at least 1500 points painted ready for any heresy events in the future. I'm not going to the one this month but I'm guessing there will be more with the release of Massacre.

Hope you like.

Lupercal!
