Request for help! Sigismunds Finest, imperial fists force!

Hello brothers!

 

Some of you know my by the audacious Dark Angels army being built and painted by Worthy Painting. I'm now personally going to work on an Imperial Fist force modeled after the defense force on Terra. I feel a base of 10-20 breaching squads with the shields with MKIII armor. Then a contemptor dreadnought with Kheres assault cannon and powerclaw w/ graviton gun. I'm having trouble however modeling Sigismund and his body guards. Does he have a shield or not? Should the body guards be terminators or veterans?

 

If you were to make a 1000pt base imperial fist army based on the defense of the eternity gate how would you build it?

I'm not sure about Sigismund as I'm not up to date on the novels. From what I've read over the years from various sources I'd make a few recommendations;

 

The mk3 boarding marines would look good as a defensive formation.

I think a vindicator is visually a defensive looking weapon platform. Afterall, who wants to advance into that deadly 24 inch death zone?

A fast response unit could be useful, such as a deepstriking unit like jump pack destroyers. When a part of the line needs reinforcing drop them in and shoot em up.

A heavy support squad with maybe autocannons in mk3 armour would look cool.

Rules wise including apothecary detachments might fit, makes your guys live longer. Fearless troops via Chaplains or other means would be good to show that the Fists won't back down. Remember theres no ATSKNF.

 

It depends how competitive you want the army. Aesthetic/thematic choices will eventually impact on effectiveness. 

 

In summary - a core of tough infantry packing some hefty firepower backed up by some heavy armour.

No shield, a pistol and a master crafted power sword and his bodyguard should be PA veterans so they can keep up with him

 

How would I do Sigismund's Templars? I personally think the Imperial Fists 1st company was probably used as the first element to get into the enemy position and break the siege from inside while the rest of the legion bombards them from afar and pushes onwards so units that can get close to the enemy to engage in close combat would be awesome

 

for troops i'd use either assault squads or legion siege breaching squads in drop pods, I'd put a basilisk and vindicators and contemptors in pods

Wasnt Sigismund sent out of the walls to find and challenge Chaos champions?

 

That would definitely back up the consensus so far that Power Armour Veterans would suit the bodyguard more.

He was indeed. In the books he's mentioned as having golden armor when he's kneeling in front of Dorn by the statues. I'm thinking of using the legion champion with a head swap and arm swap.

The legion champion is what I'm using as a base to make Sigismund for my friend. Just fixed the head a little, swapped a BT shoulder pad and put on some tabards and it's set.  As for his body guards I'd def go PA vets.
