What would be your vision of Hollywood Heresy?

So, if hollywood EVER tried to tell the tale of the Horus Heresy, what do you think it would be like?

I just thought it'd be funny to concieve of what sort of cliche ideas/shortcuts/omissions/alterations/HERESY! Hollywood would implement into its own version of the Heresy to make it more easily pallatable to the wider public. lol.

For some idea of what i might mean:

>Warp forces = Orks/Xenos and Horus gets corrupted by Orks on Ullanor (Orks look like reptilian gorillas and talk all ssssinisssterrr).

>Magnus played by Nicholas Cage.

>Legions dont have their unique character or origin and are instead <Generic supersoldier template> with an idiosynchratic commander (aka Primarch), "Legion" affiliation is merely indicated by the colour of their generic shoulder strap.

>The Golden Throne is actually just a command seat for this really powerful titan which is activated at the seige of terra and defeats the mongrel band of orks and traitors <generic supersoldiers> led by Horus.

>The events of Istvaan 3 are replaced with the protagonist trying to lead a mutiny on the vengeful spirit which gets put down, and after that, the loyalists get purged in a "order 66" type montage.

>Fulgrim only gets addicted to one drug (which he OD's on in the series climax, causing him to either explode, or become a giant bubbly mush)

>comic relief.

>With the help of the golden throne titan, the emperor captures horus and imprisons him and all the other traitors (except fulgrim who explodes after too many steroids), taking them away to "find out more about this new and unknown enemy". It will then cue to the ending which sets up for future sequels.

Like, fan fiction level bad. And you would probably only be able to see it in 3d.

tl;dr: What sort of cliche things would hollywood do if they ever got the opportunity to cover the horus heresy.

Personally I would hate it if hollywood made a HH franchise. UNLESS its a real hardcore group of fans directing it and stick 100% to the lore. The it might be good.

What would be even better would be for them to follow Dan Abnetts first 3 books.

Have Michael Bay make a lot of "cool" explosions.

If it was on the level of The Rock or the first Transformers, it wouldn't be that bad. If it was like the third Transformers......... I'd definitely be rooting for a "Siege of Hollywood".

Agreed. The story is just to big and complex for it to be trusted to people who are only worried about $$$.

So, just Horus Rising, Legion and Prospero Burns? Don't get me wrong, those are amazing books, but they would only tell part of the story.

To be honest, if part of the Heresy had to be made into movies, the big four I would want to see are definitely Know No Fear and Betrayer because I have a thing for space battles and these two have some very good ones. Oh and Galaxy in Flames and............. I completely forgot what the last one was going to be. I guess Horus Rising just to see how it all started. In picture.

Maybe we should start a kickstarter for the guys doing Lord Inquisitor...............

Kol_saresk: Ahh damnit, I meant Horus Rising, False Gods and Galaxy in Flames, stupid me, confusing things and not explaining myself wallbash.gif At least that would be a good start in my opinion. But the heresy is so big it should rather become a series like Game of Thrones.

michael bay is perfect for 40k's over the top explosions and actions, its not like 40k has a very deep or intriguing plot so there isnt much he CAN ruin

I think 'know no fear' can work as a stand alone thing, put a prologue a la star wars for context and go insane with the legion on legion warfare and effhuge tanks falling from the skies and cities being nuke left and right

Erasmus and co. can't do anything with money, GW would send a cyclonic torpedo their way so fast it might be funny if you had time to process what GW did.

Yes and no. He can use the money to get/keep/maintain equipment and the software programs as well as buy permission from GW/BL to make the movies and get the contract written up to be able to do it with no interference. Might not be the easiest thing in the world but it is feasible and the higher ups might be willing to do it since it advertises both the books and the game. And will most likely be better than the Ultramarines movie. Besides, it was just an idea. tongue.png

Lots of peeps have tried to suggest it, but he keeps insisting that no money can go in to the project, even peripherally related. AFAIK all of it is on his own budget/comps.

Also - did you see the promo vid he put up two weeks ago? Haha, his lead animator give Ultramarines a straight up suplex, lol

If they actually made a move it would probably be a cheap version of something like the Ultra marine movies, which wasn't great.

However, if they actually did do it right, I think guillermo del toro would rock as a director for it. Sure, he'd do a better job doing a fantasy Warhammer movie, but he'd do a great job on a 40k flick too. I wouldn't want a hellboy 2 type movie, but a darker Pan's labyrinth type movie, which if you've seen it was eerie and awesome!

Michael bay on the other hand makes movies that substitute explosions and digital effects for actual story line. Watching a 90 minute collection of explosions and shiny stuff instead of real 40k content would disappoint me.

The HBO type game of thrones version would be great. Why do we love GOT? because the amount of characters. The depth of each of them. The interactions they have. The Drama. Michael Bay movies has none of this. If you have been following the HH books you'll know that drama drives the stories forward, not random explosions.

I think it would be better suited to an anime series that follows every single part of the books in order of release, I don't trust anyone in Hollywood. And honestly I think brad Pitt could pull of dorn, I think that would make a great match, but if you were to ever make the movie or trilogy or whatever it wouldn't succeed look at the space marine movie, it was made for a child like mindset of the 40k universe, the great crusade and heresy need to be left in the imagination. I picture it as a brutal sadistic gut wrenching place that my mind can never truly comprehend but I enjoy visiting.

"Boobs, you know I love you. But my Father... He'd never approve of our relationship. I stand for the Imperial Truth in his honor and you... you're a heretic!"

"Horus dear, my beloved, there must be a way. True love conquers all."

"No! No, don't make me choose between my love for Him and my love for you! Don't ask me to tear my heart apart!"

"Life is made of hard choices, my love."

"Curse you! Curse you Boobs, curse you my Father, curse you fate! Why do you torture me so? Must I cut my soul in two for your sick amusement?"

"Beloved..."

"Silence, Boobs! I've made my choice! The survival of humanity is nothing compared to the importance of our love! I will cast the False Emperor down from his throne and take my rightful place as the leader of mankind with you at my side! We shall rule the stars together, my queen!"

"Oh Horus, kiss me!"

-

That should be a faithful representation of the Horus Heresy.

reported for MY :cussING GOD HOW FREAKING TWISTED DOES YOUR BRAIN HAVE TO BE TO EVEN COME UP WITH SUCH EYE-GOUGING MADNESS???!?!????!?!!!????

Excuse me while I go disgorge my dinner.

If we take Game of Thrones as a model...every single female character is now A. Hot and B. Naked all the time.

Lotara, Cyrene, Euphrati Keeler, the Silent Sisters..all of them naked, all the time. But it's okay, because they're strong female characters. Not gratuitous T & A for the male audience to drool over. Because...DISTRACTING NAKED WOMAN OVER THERE!

Wait... what?

Every female in GoT is naked? I must have missed those ones.

Okay...every one except Brienne of Tarth, Catelyn Stark, and Arya.

I have backslidden into the heresy of hyperbole, I recognize my failing, and will be sure to correct it.

See you next winter. *BLAM* HERESY

No, but it's true. How many sci films nowadays involve at least a few nekkid women? Tons of 'em.

I see Davin istvan III as the 1st movie Istvan V as the 2nd and the siege of terra as the 3rd. Not fair to all the legions the wolves and the DA for stater's but they play little part in the major heresy battle's so far.

I'd like to see something like the 1st LOtR movie with a narrated history showing the legion's at war maybe end the narrating at ullanor. We are then introduced to horus before the event's of davin.
