Vulkan. The quietest Primarch?

Recommended Posts

Perhaps we will know more in the next novel about Vulkan . I agree that primarch have somme tie with the warp ,

That's probably the case, but from what we've seen of some of the Primarchs' thought processes, it could be just as likely that he's able to calculate these things based on geographical features or somehow being able to see absorbtion spectrum of rocks from orbit and running an internal simulation to calculate what is underneath.

It always amused me that Vulkan's life is described as "among the better known tales" in the Index Astartes article and yet it describes only his life until he leaves Nocturne. We know absolutely nothing of what he did during the Great Crusade (other than a limited edition novella) or the Horus Heresy.

We don't know about what the Legion itself actually did during the crusade either (other than the novella). I hope it will be touched upon in the new novels.

Hopefully "Scorched earth" and "Vulkan live " will answer to a lot of question .

Perhaps the problem is that we can't have emotional ties to any salamnder . We need emblematic heroes , aside with the primarchs . Like Garro , Loken , Khârn , Erebus ....

For the moment none of the salamnders characters gave me this emotion (except the primarch )

@ Aegnor : I don't remember any writing which said tha t Vulkan is a psyker. On the Nick Kyme's blog I asked him if we will have an answer to the question : If Vulkan seems to not be a psyker ( as said in Age of Darkness) how he managed to do his prophecies ? Do we will have answers in the next novel ?

He answered perhaps ....

I've just read a section in Angel Exterminatus that has relevence to this comment.

Not only is Aresh Tarsa a pretty cool character thus far (I'm only 150 pages in so I don't know if he gets better, worse, dies etc) and his description is making the Salamanders sound cooler but he is able to spot Sharrowkyn who is hiding in the shadows and should for all intents and purposes be invisable. Their conversation might hint at some extra ability that only the Salamanders and Vulkan posess;

'I'm not normally so easily discovered,' he said.

'I'm sure,' Agreed Tarsa, 'but when you see as the Fire-born do, there is little that escapes our notice. Especially in the darkness.'

'Every legionary sees well in the darkness,' said Sharrowkyn.

'Not as we do,' said Tarsa...

So Salamanders have some sort of enhanced sight or the like? Perhaps that is how Vulkan can pick up on material resources on a planet. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a warp thing maybe just an mutation in their eyes after all they are solid burning red.

Thank you for mentioning Mortarion. I have been impatiently craving a book that details Mortarion's perspective before Horus, Lorgar, or Erebus got to him. I am very curious to know exactly what motives or feelings persuaded and encouraged him to side with Horus and didn't feel like Eisenstein explained much of his perspective.

Not quite sure why he loathes Magnus so much either...

Here's hoping for a true Plaguemarine book (crosses fingers)

Isn't the Khan covered in "Brotherhood of the Storm" at all? (Haven't read it yet)

I haven't read all of the books but there's a fair amount on why Mortarian chooses Horus over the Emperor. The main reason being that the Emperor just replaced Mortarians father when he killed him. He just wandered in and proved his superiority over Mortarian who'd spent the majority of his life freeing the world.

Most of the original reasons for the Primarches siding with Horus were more grounded and a bit better IMO

Might that just be in keeping with his character though? I mean Mortarian is neigh on silent by nature if I remember rightly so I can hardly see him having a candid conversation with the Emperor or any of his brothers to any real degree. Not saying he doesn't deserve his own book I've always found the Death Guard quite ineresting.

Mortarian just seems to me like the sort of person who you'd send a huge text to and only get the response 'yep' or 'ok' haha

I could see that happening,

Horus- Hey mort were about to go exterminate some xenos you in brother?

Mort- yep.

Vulkan- Hey man it was good catching up with you at dad's Ulanor thing last week. Can't believe all this about Horus taking control of the Crusade not in a bad way though he's a pretty awesome guy. Anyway couldn't help but notice you were still wearing that old rusty face mask I'd love to make you something nicer as a present just need to know your neck size? Anyway man, gotta get back to it hit me up just to chat or to arrange some killing. Vulkan.

Mortarion- K

Mortarion- K

Could you imagine the lion and mortarion

Ones socially retarded the other ones a loner

The lion- so......... Your legion is the death guard how do you feel about that.

Awkward silence

Mortarion- ........... Yep.

@ Deus : as I remenber it is said in Promethean Sun , that Vulkan have the best view of all his brother , but perhaps it. Is a translation mistake of me . Anyway , the salamander character in Angel Exterminatus seems pretty cool , hope we will see him more in the future .

For Mortarion I hope too we will see more thoughts about himself in a future book .

Drakes and Dragon's being's of incredible wisdom strength and patience. But when you push them past there limit there anger burn's bright and hot I really want to see this shown as part of the salamander's character either taken from the primarch or learned from nocturn.

I want to read about the Salamanders First Captain! All the Firsts are pretty awesome and if he is anything like Tu'Shun, Praetor or Vulkan He'stan in the Tome of Fire then I think he will fall in with Sevatar, Sigismund and Abbadon as one of the top basasses of M30.

Think I read somewhere that in early editions Salamanders could see additional light spectrum's or something.

The more I think about it the more I think there has to be some sort of extra benefit of the eyes. I know all the legions have some traits/mutations from their Primarch like Raven Guards skin tone BUT that is just a melonchromic mutation easily explained but Salamanders eyes dont just alter in colour every description of them implies their almost glowing.
