Considering starting a warband and joining the dark prince

Recommended Posts

So I have been reading up on slaanesh alot lately and well I have slowly found myself coming round to his armies way of thinking. Now I am planning to create a chapter who fell to slaanesh took their geneseed with em is rebuilding their forces. HOWEVER I decided that as I wanted to get the Dark Vengance set my lord would be in power armour. Now I was looking for a good bodyguard for him and I thought well why not have 6 possessed of slaanesh to guard him in a land raider. So what im wondering is how viable this is? or is it a fools errand

I don't think you would be happy with that setup.  Possessed just don't perform to their cost.  If it were me and I had DV models plus a box of possessed (and I do, BTW) I would put a winged back pack from the possessed sprue on the lord and call it a jump pack. (and so I did).

That's actually a pretty sweet idea. Then run him with some Warptalons or Havocs, and they can escort him just fine. I was entertaining that idea for a while, since I have some extra winged back parts from my possessed, and I'm glad someone else thought of it too. Also, if you really, really want to run possessed, a rhino is the most expensive thing I would personally put them in. It'll get them across the field, at least most of the time, and when the enemy breaks it open, you get to charge on your next turn, though the rhino itself does count as a kill point, so it's a bit of a gamble that you'll make the points back.

Honestly, from Dark Vengeance one of the most fun (though I use the word lightly) configurations is to run a twenty man blob of cultists with the lord in there, and then call the chosen regular chaos space marines and just run at the enemy. With 20 bodies for look-out-sir, your lord should practically never get hit, unless he's in a challenge. However, the average-toughness would be 3, so there will be lots of wounds on your dudes. Regardless, it's fun for skirmishes.

Lords in Cultist squads work well because you're removing their biggest disadvantage which is poor LD. Now you have a Fearless horde of bullet catchers who are all eager to die in the eyes of Slaanesh. Plus MoS isn't a horrible choice on Cultists if you want to be fluffy, as I4 is a nice bonus.
