The not so grey Dreadknight

Recommended Posts

This is my first, somewhat nationalistic, Greyknight Dreadknight. I have 18 unfinished spacemarines and a Venerable Dreadnought that will be in the same color scheme.,

Sorry about the pictures, my Camera-fu isn't really up to par just yet.

I haven't quite decided wether to wash it or not.

I'll be honest, and please don't be insulted, but right now I really don't like that Dreadknight.

Now I'm very much a traditionalist so it could just be that, but at the very least you need to get some ink washes onto that bad boy to stop it looking quite so much like a toy and more like a model. Also I'd consider getting some Boltgun Metal (Ironbreaker in the new scheme I think) onto the skeleton; the black makes it look unfinished.

Also, get some more layers of red on. You can see the black undercoat still and it just looks patchy.

These are all just my opinions so feel free to ignore every word I've said. Other than that, welcome to the ranks of the Grey Knights brother.

I appreciate your honesty :)

Traditioanlist or not, I am fully aware that it's not any where near as good as many of the other models here, and that I have much to learn.

And now I guess i'm off to find a "Washing for dummies" guide, i'm sure there is one around here somewhere.

Don't get me wrong, I'm far from a great painter myself. I only took the decision to experiment with washes in recent months and it's the best decision I ever made; it's impossible to go wrong with them. Don't worry about how it compares to other people's models; there are a number of ridiculously good painters on here that still make me cry! As long as you're happy with your schemes, that's the important thing though if you're anything like me, you'll always want to improve on what you've got wallbash.gif

When I say traditionalist, I just mean I think Grey Knights should be grey etc. so anything that falls out of the norm is automatically dodgy in my opinion ha. It's a flaw in my character.....

I have done some washing before, with varied success. My Ironclad Dreadnough has gotten som dodgy dark spots due to over-eager use of wash.

Just wash it into the recesses and around any raised symbols, then clean it up afterward.
