Pictures can never be too big! Great work on these guys so far - I really like your weathering, the contemptor looks really rusty / worn - awesome! I'm going to try and get a similar look for my upcoming world eaters shadowsword... :)

Thanks for your Kind words, to achieve this look I use Masking Fluid from Vallejo, quite simple process in fact:

Black Primer, a layer of a dark brown , 2-3 stippled layers of the brown with more and more orange, aply masking fluid with a sponge and a toothpick to achieve some randomnes, or for example cuts, glancing hits etc, ground colour of your choice, a thin coat of varnish, and then you carefully rub the maskingfluid( that has kind a consistence like rubber after it has set) away, and then some lights (mainly under the scratches etc) and shadows, not too much though ´cause of the washes with pigments and a liiiiiittle bit of brown/grey yu wont be able to see much of these anyways^^.

I think its quite the easiest way of weathering , even if its the one with the harshest effekts in the end too.

If you want me to do a tutorial on that I can make on this evening and upload it here :)

Man the warp talons with gargoyle wings look so much better than with the ultra bulky jump packs. I hope to do the same conversion one day. Nice job!

Thats the Reason why I did them this way, and to be Honest, its quite easily done! Simply us a drill to add 2 holes beside the Backpack/Jumppack would slot in, cut the Tyranid Gargoyle wings to the Length you like ´em to have and drill them too, add a piece of wire and glue them in, smooth the conecting areas and add a bit "musculatur" to the back with a sculpting putty of your prefernce, and there you go.

But to something different now:

First a small update on my Moritat:

He now has arms... hoooray! Without them i could prove a bit difficult to chainshoot the Warmasters Enemys I suppose:

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/b7lhjezl.jpg

As mentioned bevore, I am usig a kind of heavy weathered Destroyer scheme for him, freehanded the SoH Legion symbol as well as the Destroyer emblem, and still have a frigin´ lot to do with him... lots of details, some few highlights and well a Jumppack!

I realy like how...dirty and grity this guy turned out, allthough I think maybe he has got a little bit too much brown on him... so maybe a few washes of black to soften that out again still to come!

As promissed ( and used as a kick in the ass to finaly do something productive) a small Tutorial on how I weather my Vehicles, Cybots and so on.

So lets start....

What do we need?

The Model you want to paint, primer several colors, brushes, varnish/ hardcoat whatever you use, blister sponges, Vallejo Masking Fluid, washes, pigments lots of motivation, preferably a shotgun ( well okay... no shotgun), brushes

I. Prime with black

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/ylkqju55.jpg

I used Vallejo sprayprimer... for the first and last time... I like the matt finish and the structure of the surface is great for painting, but sadly it doesnt stick to resin as well as it should.

After spraying i went over the turret with a diluted layer of Vallejo Black to make sure everything is properly primed.

II. first thoughts about where the heck you want the battledamage/Corrosion and ading some "structure" to it

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/aq8jugn7.jpg

I painted a layer ofVallejo Leather Brown in a roufh patern around most of the edges, and on some random spots, afterwards I added some gright orange in 2 steps to the brown and stippled it on the brown to achieve the illusion of a rusted structure.

No need to be careful, because most of this wont be seen in a few steps. BUT(!!) try to think where the damage looks natural, so mostly around moving parts, edges, handholds etc.

Second important thing is "less is more!" too much and in the end it will look like some kind of camo pattern!

IMPORTANT: Spray a coat of ´ardcoat or any other seal u normaly use after this step, so u dont remove the color that easy in a later step!

III.Adding the Masking Fluid

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/gmrnbrex.jpg

Maybe a bit bad to see, but the slightly turqoise "blobs" is what the masking fluid looks like after it has set. I added it with a blister sponge and a Toothpick( wich i later used to remove it.. but this step comes later , as I said)

Try to do it random again, and if you are thinking, you did too much rust in the earlier steps, dont cover all of it with the masking fluid, also try to do the masking in a jagged way so it looks natural in the end.

IV. Base Color

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/2uose4hl.jpg

Aply your base colour, in my case Kabalite Green by GW. I aplied it with a Brush in 4 or 5 thin layers, u can use spraycolors, airbrush or brush, the first 2 may even look better and thinner but I dont have any of those, so i´ll stick to my weapon of choice, the brush.

After this step a thin coat of Army painter "Aegis Suit" varnish was aplied and because i am a dumb idiot and bought a damn shiny varnish i washed the turret with 2 layers of highly diluted Vallejo Matt Medium to remove the shiny shiny sh** :-D

V.Adding Transfers

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/g9ggqkb9.jpg

Actualy.. not much to say to this point^^wait till the varnish hast dried properly and add whatever transfers you like to add.

VI. Removing the Masking Fluid

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/xycsupqo.jpg

use the toothpick and some blister sponges to CAREFULLY remove the masking fluid, if you have done it right, (i.e. leting the lower coats dry properly, used a better primer than me etc) it should look somehow like this. Afterwards is a good point at which you can paint the metal parts( first black then Metal color, i used Vallejo Gunmetal Grey) and add another coat of varnish :-)

VII. Washes, washes, pigment washes, aaaand washes... did I mention washes?

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/s6a5i2ps.jpg

Now its geting dirty... I applied several realy realy thin glazes or washes of :

Leather brown

A mix of Vallejo Pigments Dark Yellow Ocre/ Natural Umber and Vallejo Matt Medium( again, as I said, highly diluted!)

Black but just a tiny little bit!

I also stippled some of it to simulate splaters

Around the metal Parts( rivets and the... I dont know what it is supposed to be... the metal parts anyways^^) I added 2 washes with black a light drybrush with Gunmetal grey and Metal Medium( by Vallejo again...^^) and several washes of Burnt Siena Pigments with Matt Medium around the Metal Parts. This wash i carefully stippled onto some of the rust parts from the previous steps to add some structure.

I use the Medium with water so I dont have to seal every layer of Pigment wash seperately!

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/160224/nzkyzmcc.jpg

This is it... more or less... I added a spot or two here and there but overall quite simple and effective technique in my opinion smile.png

I hope you enjoyed reading the tutorial and feel free to coment!

Keep it on Brothers!
