World Eaters Blog: Spawn 2x

I haven't painted a mini in nearly 5 years, but lately I found myself browsing CMON again and getting the urge the pick up a brush again... The excellent (airbrush) tutorials by AwesomePaintjob and BuyPainted pushed me over the edge and I started collecting a Khorne army! All these miniatures are done mostly by airbrush(armour, skin, axes), details where painted with a brush and than I applied an oil wash. I love this technique, as it runs easily into the crevices of the mini and clean-up is easy with a q-tip and white spirit. Very controlled, unlike a traditional acyrlic wash.

You know these look super cool and  I'm always happy to see more Chaos out there, but I wonder why the contrast is so high in the pictures...the colour saturation too. I'd love to see what they really look like.

@ Marshall

Thnx! The head was easy to remove, I just carefully carved it out, piece by piece to retain the collar. Take maybe 30min, just carve carefully and be patiënt!

@ Prot

The miniatures have a high contrast themself. It's easy to blend extreme colours with the airbrush. The darkest shadow of the armour is Vallejo Model Air Mahogeny(a deep dark red/brown) and the final highlight is VMA Fluorescent Red(a fiery orange almost). This is straight out of the camera, before focus stacking in Photoshop. Just did a small Curve and added a bit of contrast after that.

Thnx! The snow is done with Busch modelsnow. Got it from a local modeltrain store. Works great and is dirt cheap! Just mix the powder with some water and slap it on. The snow is sculptable for about 30 mins. Don't use the sparkles they include, no matter what the salesman says, it does NOT make the snow realistically sparkly and fresh! Makes it look like they went to the strip club, learned that the hard way...

Also finished the first Berzerker squad!

Thnx all! The red is the BuyPainted recipe: VMA Fire Red > VMA Mahogany Shade > VMA Scarlet Red Highlight > VMA Fluorescent Red, applied using the zenithal technique followed by an oil wash of Winsor & Newton Van Dyke Brown.

ps That's my Librarian in your sig Skittle! :D

Hey man, just wanted to let you know that I love your models so far! The colour contrast on your World Eaters is amazing! Great job!

The lord conversion based on that new plastic champ inspired me to make my own lord conversion based on that model, btw ;)

Anyway, double thumbs up from a fellow World Eater! ;) Looking forward to your next update!

So, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I've been busy with work and painted some miniatures for a online painting competition, so can't share those yet. This guy was also intended for that, but I couldn't finish him in time. The Heldrake is quite the hell to paint and assemble. Here it finally is, in all it's glory:

Man, I haven't updated in a long while! I've been incredibly busy with my new job lately. I also moved and have more space for painting and also for taking pictures, soI take some better ones. I have 2 Berzerker squads and some Spawns coming up quickly now!

Fantastic!

The skin tones you accomplished on the Hellbrute are just the right amount of sick-looking. That subtle jaundiced shade around protrusions and the blood stained spinal cord.
