Infestus
I haven't painted a mini in nearly 5 years, but lately I found myself browsing CMON again and getting the urge the pick up a brush again... The excellent (airbrush) tutorials by AwesomePaintjob and BuyPainted pushed me over the edge and I started collecting a Khorne army! All these miniatures are done mostly by airbrush(armour, skin, axes), details where painted with a brush and than I applied an oil wash. I love this technique, as it runs easily into the crevices of the mini and clean-up is easy with a q-tip and white spirit. Very controlled, unlike a traditional acyrlic wash.Khorne Terminator Lordhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7285/8737855667_595b3002ce.jpgKhorne-Terminator-Lord-Front by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/67272316@N05/873785url]Khorne-Terminator-Lord-Front by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7288/8737868997_5fc5ce5dec.jpgKhorne-Terminator-Lord-Right by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7287/8740703321_0ce9030b05.jpgKhorne-Terminator-Lord-Axe by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7286/8740702905_6b1c511f6d.jpgKhorne-Terminator-Lord-Back by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/8741820150_cd0fce7838.jpgKhorne-Terminator-Lord-Side by JeroenDiks1987, on FlickrKhorne Lordhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7291/8741926838_5acb38bc93.jpgKhorne-Lord-Front by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7282/8741928738_28e4e47d6c.jpgKhorne-Lord-Side copy by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7283/8740810643_31ec88851a.jpgKhorne-Lord-Back by JeroenDiks1987, on FlickrBerzerker Squad 1(half)http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5347/8756603987_0e45a6a09f.jpgKhorne-Bezerker-Squad-Front by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm6.staticflickr.com/5350/8756604501_3dde531fc2.jpgKhorne-Bezerker-Squad-Back by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm3.staticflickr.com/2821/8756604919_f93ed4c44f.jpgKhorne-Bezerker-Squad-Champ by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickrhttp://farm4.staticflickr.com/3810/8757731638_8cb0d983ac.jpgKhorne-Bezerker-Squad-Melta by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr
Son of Carnelian
They look great! I would be interested to know how difficult it was to remove the head on the aspiring champion plastic model.
Prot
You know these look super cool and I'm always happy to see more Chaos out there, but I wonder why the contrast is so high in the pictures...the colour saturation too. I'd love to see what they really look like.
Infestus
@ Marshall  Thnx! The head was easy to remove, I just carefully carved it out, piece by piece to retain the collar. Take maybe 30min, just carve carefully and be patiënt!  @ Prot  The miniatures have a high contrast themself. It's easy to blend extreme colours with the airbrush. The darkest shadow of the armour is Vallejo Model Air Mahogeny(a deep dark red/brown) and the final highlight is VMA Fluorescent Red(a fiery orange almost). This is straight out of the camera, before focus stacking in Photoshop. Just did a small Curve and added a bit of contrast after that.  http://i41.tinypic.com/p55py.jpg
Sigur
Looking nice. I agree that the contrast is looking very strong and I think that the blue background adds a lot to the red saturation and contrast as well.
Infestus
Next up: the Helbrute! Nice model, liked doing the muscles with the airbrush. Love the workflow the airbrush offers, so fast combined with an oil wash!  http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2862/8789941432_3feec899bb.jpg Helbrute-Front by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2809/8789934246_fcbd46e1c0.jpg Helbrute-Side by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5327/8789944070_a9b9176c18.jpg Helbrute-Back by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7312/8789936342_b206fc4abe.jpg Helbrute-Side-2 by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8534/8789938670_eda2f19cfb.jpg Helbrute-Melta by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr
Firepower
I've recently embarked upon the exact same adventure of airbrushing and oil washes, with the exact same inspirations I just hope my results end up as good as yours. These are lovely little psychopaths you've made.
macas
How did you do the snow on the bases?
Infestus
Thnx! The snow is done with Busch modelsnow. Got it from a local modeltrain store. Works great and is dirt cheap! Just mix the powder with some water and slap it on. The snow is sculptable for about 30 mins. Don't use the sparkles they include, no matter what the salesman says, it does NOT make the snow realistically sparkly and fresh! Makes it look like they went to the strip club, learned that the hard way... Â Also finished the first Berzerker squad! Infestus
Thnx all! The red is the BuyPainted recipe: VMA Fire Red > VMA Mahogany Shade > VMA Scarlet Red Highlight > VMA Fluorescent Red, applied using the zenithal technique followed by an oil wash of Winsor & Newton Van Dyke Brown. Infestus
So, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I've been busy with work and painted some miniatures for a online painting competition, so can't share those yet. This guy was also intended for that, but I couldn't finish him in time. The Heldrake is quite the hell to paint and assemble. Here it finally is, in all it's glory:  http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5461/9248688720_43d629548c.jpg Heldrake-1-PS by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7323/9248687742_c5428fe8bf.jpg Heldrake-2-PS by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5342/9245905221_ab2c5683ce.jpg Heldrake-3-PS by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7456/9245956019_f0b558a587.jpg Heldrake-4-PS by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3681/9245904135_13ab0201e0.jpg Heldrake-5-PS by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3803/9245903173_b7ae632d5c.jpg Heldrake-7-PS by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr  http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5478/9246136157_a2279d80cb.jpg Heldrake-8-PS by JeroenDiks1987, on Flickr

EPK
Fantastic! Â The skin tones you accomplished on the Hellbrute are just the right amount of sick-looking. That subtle jaundiced shade around protrusions and the blood stained spinal cord.
Infestus
Thanks! I've had some time to work on my first tank, happy with how the weathering etc came out!
