That was about time. I hope Alphas get slapped this time.

Oh we always get slapped, even when we win. Notice how almost everybody dies at the end of our stories? msn-wink.gif
What does your Primarch ask of you?

Everything.

Yeah, I know. But it's still sad to see the best and brightest get abandoned and die. I liked Shanko too...

Love your name btw! ;)

Sounds Good!! just hope again the alpha legion are not slipping into WS/SW ranks again like they did with the raven guard! I like the alpha legion but them being super sneaky is a bit silly!

Reckon infiltrating the Space Wolves would have some unique challenges. "You! *angry wet leopard growl* You don't SMELL like one of the Rout!"

With how the Alpha Legion has operated so far, I expect them to replace Bjorn the Fell-Handed with one of their agents in a 10, 000 year long gambit to turn the Wolves into pure Wulfen with their genetic tech stolen in Delieverance Lost.

Oh comeon, that's a bit too far-fetched, even for the anti-AL crowd out there... tongue.png

We don't need to infiltrate to experiment msn-wink.gif

You actually think the AL haven't developed wet leopard cologne? Come on now...

The Alpha Legion infiltration shenanigans in Deliverance weren't nearly as bad as Corax being the only Primarch trusted enough to receive the special secret tech to make special Astartes who are 20% more special than regular Marines.

Rogal who?

Yeah, thought that was pretty lame. Nothing against Corax at all - he is an awesome character and deserves things that do make him a special snowflake, but boggles the mind the Emperor never bothered to get one of the Primarchs to work on this before that point.

The Alpha Legion infiltration in Deliverance Lost only worked because of one thing, nobody expected it to happen...

It will not work again, it was a large scale operation, but a one-time thing...hopefully...

I'm a little bit sceptical about the route they are going with Alpha Legion, Legion and their little presence in Fear to Tread are much better depictions of the Alpha Legion than Deliverance Lost and The Serpent Beneath. Sure, TSB was cool, but when you sit back and think about it, it was horrible. They killed of one of the few established Alpha Legion characters, and they introduced quite a few others(together with describing them as really elite and skilled legionnaires), just to kill them all off quickly again! Commander Janic was awesome, but too bad he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I both loved and hated that story...

I have high hopes for this book to set things straight. Remember that when Horus first met with Alpharius, he had been outflanking the scout ships of Horus and even managed a boarding action...with nothing more than a rag-tag fleet of small ships! :)

Maybe the Emperor knew the risks of it, hence he gave it only to a legion on the brink of total destruction.

I think it's safe to way the only reason The Emperor did it, is because Gav Thorpe is a horrible writer.

I would like to see a couple of things from this book:

  • Showing the Khan and Leman together
  • Mass Naval combat/boarding parties etc
  • Space Wolves kicking ass
  • White Scars kicking ass
  • Alpha Legion actually getting a beating - none of 'it was all a plan' Houdini crap.

I'm a fan of the Alpha Legion but I the way they went about in DL annoyed the crap out of me.

[*]Mass Naval combat/boarding parties etc

This. This alone if it is done right, would be fantastic. Everyone in the novel could die an as long as this part was worth reading, I wouldn't care who died. Okay, maybe in retrospect. But not likely.

I agree! Some ship to ship action and space combat would be awesome. And fine, I don't mind Alpha Legion losing, but please, can they at least keep some of their established characters this time and not have them killed off?

DL should imo be completely removed. the storyline was utterly ridiculous. goes with fear to tread and, to an extent (as i didnt dislike it so much, despite others opinions on it) Battle for the abyss as the worst in the series.

people shouldnt be so quick though to be demanding AL spankings and the like, considering the established history on this particular part of the conflict was that the traitors had the upper hand... wouldnt make things tense if the loyalists are just winning everywhere.

To be fair, at this point, I don't understand how the traitors get to Terra, as they keep losing everywhere (well, almost). Phall, Calth, Thramas, etc. So yeah, I really wonder how they end up on Terra.

All those battles you list had no clear victor. They were all Pyrrhic victories for both sides.

The whole idea behind Astartes warfare is, that it's (like nuclear warfare) mutally assured destruction. They only way one legion can win over another is by luck or by cheating.

Or by greatly outnumbering one side. I agree with Vesper, that we've seen a lot of battles go more in the Loyalist's favor, though it wouldn't be wrong to call them pyrrhic victories.

But the most important, the most impacting battle so far was not a pyrrhic victory. It was a full-on victory of the Traitors at the Massacre.

What I mean is in a fair honourable 1v1 fight both legions will always both die in flames. If a legion is outnumbering the other side it can be called "cheat" because it's definitely not a fair fight then. So in a way outnumbering is included in the notion of cheat winning fights.
