How would you go about making this?

I'm looking to make a hero/special character scout, and I think this pose is the biz-

Thing is, I'm not much good with greenstuff. As in like, practically useless with greenstuff. So I'm trying to figure out what combination of bitz would get me as close as possible to this pose, so I can make it with the bare minimum of sculpting.

Any suggestions? Or is that a forlorn hope?

On the flipside, it may be easier to simply take this model and turn it into a SM Scout. Thing is, I don't know what model range it comes from, and what pieces it's made of.

Perfect. Though I feel like that pose would be really hard to pull off for any sort of marine model. You'd have an easier time taking that model and turning it into a trimmed down scout or assassin.

That really comes down to what that model is made of, in terms of material and components. Unfortunately, I don't even know what range it comes from.

But yeah, the bulkiness of Scout models is a concern. Posing is also the other obviously tricky part. confused.gif

I see it, and would like to first point out that its wrong. Now I could have forgotten that posistion from the last time I was at the range, but the entire point of doing somthing like that is to have you're bone structiure act as a stand for you're rifle. With his front arm wrapped around his knee, he's got nothing. What you want is you're elbow in te pocket of you're knee.

I don't think there's any parts that can help you.... Slap some armor on that guy?

Found the mini. Have to switch to the second pic in the gallery to see him.

Not sure how the scale would hold up next to a GW scout as Infinity models seem to be much more delicate.

Converting this guy would most certainly require some GS sculpting.

If you use a plastic Scout you'll get away with cutting him apart and using the hips, boots, forearms torso and head. Put those on wires arrange him into the pose and you should only have to sculpt the cloth on the legs and arms.

Just add a glob of GS onto the wires and push the folds in, should be doable even if you are not comfortable with GS.  Worst case scenario: You have to rip it off and try again.

The upper body isn't TOO much trouble. Certainly not simple, but quite do-able.

I suppose the kneeling legs from the scout snipers would suffice as a base for the legs... That said, the legs would have to be heavily converted/reposed with a healthy amount of greenstuff filling for it to even dimly resemble that sitting position. I know you said minimal sculpting, but when it comes down to it its only filling. Not like you're sculpting the legs entirely.

One more suggestion. If you go onto the GW site and look at the pic for the Scout Snipers, on the bottom right there is a missile launcher dude. Most of the legs are rather obscured due to the pose, but I think those would also be a good base to start modelling off of, since it gives more room for another leg to fit under it, and the back leg will have to be removed anyway. I would do it by taking that pair of legs, cutting the back leg, and going with that. Cutting a boot from another leg at the knee is a simple matter and all it would need is some "replenishing" of the hip with some greenstuff.

I think I can give this conversion a shot and post it here, but that might take about a week or two. As you all can see, I don't doubt my converting skills nearly as much as I do my (pathetic) painting skills. tongue.png

The legs are probably the hardest bit, but I can't quite figure out the folded arms either. teehee.gif

War Angel- assuming the rifle is resting on top of the knee, the folded arm acts as an X-axis stabilizer more than a support for the rifle. But the rule of cool wins out over hard logic anyway msn-wink.gif

Dragonknight- Maybe I should just have you build it for me. I'll give you a dollar, and a handshake. laugh.png
