depthcharge12
Hello Brothers, A thought popped into my mind when I was just idle flipping through my copy of Fear to Tread and pictures of the new unnamed tank from forgeworld. A BoLS author made connections to the new tank variant calling it the Legion Heracles which bridges the gap between the Land Raider and Predator tanks. As this had been a tank lost in the lore and a little uncommon in my opinion for forgeworld to make a "new" space marine tank that isnt a variant, I wonder if we will see more tank developments in the future of the Heresy? I don't know whether to classify the Spartan as a separate entity to the Land Raider or not, but could possibly be the "new tank" for Betrayal. This new "Heracles," as I will call it just due to viewing that page, might be the new tank for Massacre. My other comment is that I had read briefly about a Mastodon troop carrier/crawler in FtT and wonder if we will see that in the future or if it is really just a Spartan as its description sounded familiar. I know that the Heresy will be expanding upon what we know already and give us totally new units and some revived ones from an ancient time (the 80's are old for me) but I want to see what you guys think about them. Also if you guys would like to compile a list of legion vehicles, drop pods, specialist units like Termites or Breaching drills, please go ahead and list them here and comment if you would like to see them in the future and what armies should utilize them. jeremy1391
I see the mastodon being similar to the storm lord. Either way I will be getting a few of that new tank Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275913-heresy-alternate-vehicles-mastodon-heracles-etc/#findComment-3378908 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
It's a very good possibility. Due to such a narrow viewing of the 40K universe(we are looking at a whole galaxy after all) there is so much technology we have not seen. And when we go back to 30K when the Imperium was innovating technology rather than just barely maintaining it, tere is so much more. Like how the "new" Whirlwind and Landspeeders are made to be more graceful to their 40K counterparts. So yes, I do believe this just might be one of hopefully many new sets. Raven Angel
There are at least 3 rhino variants from the novels not in model form. The Advancer from Know no Fear, The Castilan from Angle Exterminatus, and one in the Mark of Clath. There,s also the Blood Hammer tank in Betrayer. Sevatar
The Mastadon is different from the Spartan - it can transport 40 marines, and has a power field all the way round. At least, from The Primarchs. I would like to see chemical Drop-Pods for the Death Guard - like the Barbarus Sting Drop Pods from Tempus Fugitives! Oh yes, they were 'fun' - well unless you were on the receiving end Supposedly the new mega drop pod, lets call it the knight class drop pod since thats everything now and i cant recall the name (kyrbidis i think), has the vortex melta that blasts everything within a certain distance with fire or melta. So maybe you can base yours off of that possibly.... Thanks for more info on the mastodon i had only vague info from FtT It sounds like it has multiple side sponsons too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275913-heresy-alternate-vehicles-mastodon-heracles-etc/#findComment-3386610 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
The castellan rhino doesn't make much sense unless it is up armored and significant different in layout than a normal rhino, otherwise all you get is a paper bunker that can't shoot to one side. mysteriousmaskedmystery
a lot of things make more sense in the novels than in the game because anti-tank weapons are way more prevalent and reliable in the game than they would be in real life and infantry models are much more difficult to kill than they would be in real life. Kol Saresk
And in the case of the Castellan, multiple Rhinos were supposed to work in unison to act as pillboxes in a temporary armored wall while the Iron Warriors temporarily defended themselves and started digging the trenches. Two uses that don't exist in the tabletop.
