Clausel Imperial Guard Commisar!

Sir Clausel

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

Some of you may know me as the guy with the Chain maul and Demigryph riding Black Templars.

I joined in on a The Fang painting competition i Copenhagens GW shop with my Demigryph Lord, which came in 2nd in the monster category. That I am VERY proud of!

But ever since that I have had the urge to try and become a better painter. It required a miniature which had nothing to do with my armies I have so thats why it was a Commisar. And its a totally awesome miniature!

But enough talk. Im sure you guys wants pictures!

Really nice! I would have personally given him a matt varnish as he looks a bit too glossy for an Imperial officer, although that's just personal preference. Lovely highlights and really nice detailing on his face.

The varnish makes it look a little too shiny for my taste.

Apart from that very nice, good choice of colors and clean painting. Escpecially like what you did with the scars on his face. Wooden grip for the boltpistol is a nice touch as well. NMM looks good too, could be a little smoother, but that is only really noticeable on the closeup shot. Blending on the inside of the cloak and the black looks good.

Base is not bad, but since it is on a larger than 25mm base and apparently a display piece, there could be done a little bit of extra storytelling in the space there (the back looks a little empty).

All in all very nice piece, well done! Looking forward to more. msn-wink.gif

Thanks alot for the comments! Much appreciated!

Yeah he is a bit glossy. Its a habbit from my gaming miniature which gets Purity Seal on Them. For this display piece i really need to give him som matt varnish. Have been told that a bunch of times atm.

About the base. Thats one area i need to improve my skills on. So next project is going to be a bit more focussed on the base.

Thanks alot my fellow dane! Lots of kind words from a great painter! That is not something I hear everyday biggrin.png

You're welcome - and it was well deserved!

I saw you mention that you give your gaming pieces a coat of gloss varnish. I would, however, be careful to use a matt varnish on your models - it tends to deaden and flatten the colors. For my part, I never use varnish on my models at all, but of course they are all display pieces :-)

Yeah im probably not gonna give the next one varnish as this was meant as a display piece.

But im guessing that the varnish it already have on will do so the Matt varnish only tones down the glossy look.

Try out the matt varnish on a small, nondescript area first, and see how it affects the colors. It would be a shame do douse the whole model in it, only to find out that it ruins something :-)
