Need help brainstorming a scratch Mk1 Termie

Recommended Posts

God help me, but this will be done. I have one last terminator to build for my Marines Malevolent, and it will be a Mark 1 Terminator. Problem is, I'm having a hell of a time trying to come up with how to build the Torso and Shoulders. This wonderfully modernized version created by our own Greyall is pretty much exactly how I want my guy to look...

Does anybody have any ideas for shaping with greenstuff, or bit's that could be used? Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks!

Staying within GW's range, I think Tartaros pattern could provide a good starting point. I think it might be cool to make this brute a little larger than the rest. You could incorporate some converted Obliterator legs to make him all stompy and imposing. I did a quick scan of Warmachine models because they seem to favor a lot more of the sloping, curved surfaces that are present in Greyall's drawing, but I didn't have much luck. Not sure on the sizing and all that either.

For the helm, you could probably modify the helm on the far right of this pack (Iron Warriors Upgrade Pack) . For the legs, you can probably just use standard Terminator legs, but build the plates around with thin plasticard on the greaves. For the plasma cannon, could just cut one off from the new DA sprue and modify from there.

I was planning on making him huge, but I hadn't thought about oblit legs; that's a great idea, thanks! The shoulderpads very well might be the originals from the old model, cut and hollowed out. Not sure on the scale, though, so that might not work. The torso is going to be a fething nightmare, I think. I might have to sculpt and plasticard the whole damn thing. *sigh*

Hold on! you stole my Idea! well anyways, let me take a look through my warmachine bitz. might have something. we need to cast this! I'll help.

Maybe if I can get the first done correctly, we could make a second one to cast. I won't risk the original. Sorry I missed your call, btw. I was out in the garden, lol.

That was the helm I was planning, lol. I still have one in my bitz box. I won't be doing the plasma cannon, since this will be a sergeant.

I've got a DW plasma cannon if you need it heathens.

Not using the Plas, man. This fella is going to be a Sergeant, so he has to stay WYSIWYG. Thanks, though!

Did'nt the first terminators from SH first edition come close . I thought I still have acouple I'LL dig for 'em .the shoulder pads are shaped like the picure but would'nt work .out of scale.

Bummer. I was hoping, but ah well.

Could you do something with Dread shinplates stuck together for a torso base, or maybe shoulder pads - or would that be too hooge? Shinplates for shoulders look huge on normal Termies, but if you're scaling to that.. they're not curved enough both directions though I don't think.

I'd thought about that, but came to the same conclusion. I think I may have found an answer, though. The flank armour on the Chaos Knights horses is both curved, and large scaled. I'm going to do some size comparisons, but I think it mihgt work.

The torso is still killing me. I'm half tempted to make a big ball o greenstuff, and start whiddling, lol.

Dude, I totally saw one here on the B&C less than a week ago....I'll try find it and linky...might've been in the DA subforum?

Jono

EDIT: Found it, Dark Rage in the DA subforum

:cuss: Yeah! Awesome find, Grot, I really apprieciate that. This will help with the sizing, sadly my greenstuff-fu is not quite up to the challenge of actually hand sculpting a whole mini, lol.

The scale, though, is perfect.

Well heathens, I am coming back to anchorage today after my Halibut trip. when we are settle I am going to start some prelim sketches and knock ups. what size compared to a regular termie? bigger? smaller? hit me up.

oh, and if you ever wanna go halibut fishing, let me know, my father in law owns a charter company.....
