outflanking calvary

Recommended Posts

I only just realized that this is viable, at least as far as I can tell, and == REDACTED - JUVENILE & NONCONSTRUCTIVE == I would bring it to my brothers here at the bnc to help verify.

If you take a wolf guard battle leader with a mount you can still take saga of the hunter, and then you have the outflank for calvary or fenrisian wolves.

I'm sure I'm not the first to notice this but I have never heard of it being tried any word on viability?

You could technically take an unmounted Wolf Guard Battle Leader (Or, now that jump infantry are just regular infantry with extra bells and whistles, one with a jump pack) and have them escort the Thunderwolves (Although a lot of people on these boards cry foul every time someone sticks a non-Thunderwolf mounted IC in a TWC pack, even though it's completely RAW). However, Outflanking Thunderwolves aren't terribly impressive given that they can't assault the turn they come on.

That's possible but I don't think anyone not on a TW can join a TW squad. I may be wrong though.

Nah, the restriction is the other way around. IC's on a Thunderwolf Mount may only join a unit of Thunderwolf Cavalry or Fenrisian Wolves. There is no restriction to who can join TW or FW units, so any IC can - whether they have a TW Mount or not.

Despite semantical wrangling, the restriction is a two way street. The end result is still an illegal unit.

The semantic wranglings are required by your position in this argument:

" A character with a Thunder Wolf Mount has the unit type of cavalry, adds+1Strength, +1Toughness, and+1Attack to his profile, and has the Rending special rule in close combat with any attack that does not use a special close combat weapon. However,he may only join Thunder Wolf Cavalry or Fenrisian Wolves units-", C:SW, pg.62

Nowhere is there a prohibition on a non-mounted IC joining a Thunderwolf Cavalry unit.

Aww crap forgot about that. O well. How about this then. Is it possible for a wolf priest to join a unit and give them out flank and then have the wolf priest leave the unit turn 1?

no, cause if he helps the unit outflank, he'll join the game turn 2 at the earliest
My bad that was a typo, I meant after the unit entered the field

Despite semantical wrangling, the restriction is a two way street. The end result is still an illegal unit.

BR,

That's your personal opinion, and those of us who've been on the board for awhile already know your position; unfortunately, it isn't actually supported by the rules.
