Plaguecaster
Hey I have a few forgeworld models like the spartan and different armour sets and I was wondering is there anything that maks it easier to assemble them gluing is a real pain as it doesn't always stick and the excesses resin bits are a real pain to remove. Am I doing something wrong or is there some tips that make it easier I have to have a break trying making anything as I had a little incident. I accidentally slipped as I was cutting some of the excess bits off the track units cutting very deep into my finger just missing bone , so after a breief trip to the hospital my hand is all wrapped up now though on the plus side the blood that was spilled my spartan must have consecrated it the dark gods edpecially Khorne so hopefully I have his favour now. Brother Melice
What are you trying to do??? Advice about working with resin, when cutting, takeit in small batches, gradually taking small areas of resin. Trying to cut away a large piece of resin will end in lipping, forcing the knife blade and mistakes overall. Modeling saw is a great choice and three or four grades of sand paper to finish. Take great care when sanding resin, dust mask is a must!! Never sand resin with ought it! Plaguecaster
Thanks, trying to cut a large bit of resin was how I cut my self in the first place. Seems like getting a hobby saw would be a good idea for me. Cheers hopefully I will have better luck Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276247-how-to-successfully-assemble-fw-models/#findComment-3384051 Share on other sites
Hasdrubal
Forge World products are sexy, but unfortunately not know for the best quality in the industry... It is recommended to - start small before stepping up you game: building some resin infantry models will help you get accustomed to resin, before moving on to larger projects - get the tools and equipments needed to work with resin: hobby saw (or precision power tool), very fine grit sandpaper, pin vice, pinning rods, superglue, modelling putty to fill gaps and bubbles, and a mask to avoid breathing resin dust - take time: prepping resin models takes much more time than plastic ones if one wants to do the model justice Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276247-how-to-successfully-assemble-fw-models/#findComment-3386093 Share on other sites
Gurth
Take great care when sanding resin, dust mask is a must!! Never sand resin with ought it!Even better advice is to sand it wet — just make sure you use wet-and-dry sandpaper, else you won't be sanding for very long Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276247-how-to-successfully-assemble-fw-models/#findComment-3386112 Share on other sites
S.k.i.t.t.l.e
Also, you mentioned having trouble gluing them? You must wash and rinse resin models before doing any gluing or painting on them because they have release agents on them to help get them out of the mould during production. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276247-how-to-successfully-assemble-fw-models/#findComment-3386157 Share on other sites

Everything else has been covered. Though I stick to my set of files for smoothing stuff out. depthcharge12
Dude the spartan was a pain in the @ss to build for me and i had the same problems you did. Unfortunately to my chagrin, i learned more is more with super glue for the spartan and i orginally tried to do it with one of those brush on super glue things instead of squeezing it out of a tube like normal people grrr if you havent built the tracks yet or shoved the doors in yet...well...you will shed more man tears then you ever will in life and do lots of this: and subject to lots of ragequit however however however, once you manage the herculean task of building that sonhuvabitch you will be quite pleased and quite angry at the resin gods. I recommend trying to get a primer down shortly after the glue dries as the primer seems to hold everything together better...just a word of advice Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276247-how-to-successfully-assemble-fw-models/#findComment-3388507 Share on other sites
Peredyne
I clean all of my resin before I start assembly by soaking in simple green in my ultrasonic cleaner. I always use cutters to remove from the sprue. Sprue cutters are perfect for this task. I actually cut it off of the sprue, and then cut the excess off and file the surface smooth with a diamond file.
