Brother Talos
A really simple and easy method I found is called glazing (not related to the GW glaze paints however). Start by painting the weapon chainmail. Then take whatever color paint you want to use (I find reds, blues, yellows, oranges, and sometimes greens work best) and thin it WAY down so when you paint it onto your weapon you can barely see it at all. Then use the thinned paint to paint the bottom 90% of the blade, Wait for it to dry, then do the bottom 80%, dry, 70%, etc… until you reach the base of the blade. It gives a cool effect of power radiating from the hilt. Hope This Helped! Rik Lightstar
If you thinned a gw glaze, with thinner not water, that should do the job for this too. Quixus
So the lightening of the color is done only by using less layers of the the same diluted color? Which blue did you use for the weapon in the picture? The idea of a glaze medium is to make an opaque a translucent. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276323-easy-power-weapons-with-glazing-not-gw-glaze/#findComment-4207689
