Napallm777
I currently have.. 20x GK SS 15x Purifiers 15x GK terminators 2x Vindicare assassin 2x Landraider 2x Storm Raven 2x Rhino 1x Psyback 2x Dreadknight 3x Dreadnaught 2 configured as psyflmen dreads. With HQ choices Crowe Stern Draigo Librarian. I tend to run with heavy firepower (psycannon spam) but lack a little range. I am looking at possibilities for filling the gaps with range and was thinking Imperial Guard for allies. They have many cheap and effective options and the tanks look amazing. I would eventually like to delve into more of the GK options like more use of my Dreadknights and adding in Purgation Squads and Paladins etc and with this in mind would also like an ally that would be able to add range numbers and fill as many of the gaps as I can. Any suggestions for an all round ally attachment? Has anyone found something that works well and can fill most of the void? number6
Heh. I just now posted my Inquisition allied detachment in a concurrent topic. Perhaps that might suit your fancy. I think it complements a GK-heavy army quite nicely. Napallm777
That actually looks rather sweet can you point out the main uses of each model? (I am ignorant to IG pluses\weakness) My setup is usually based off. Ordo Malleus Inquisitor: /w terminator dreadnought armor, daemon hammer, psycannon, and psyker mastery level 1: /w psychic communion: 110 pts Terminators (10): /w 2x psycannons and swords; 2x halberds, 4x daemon hammers, Justicar: /w warding stave; brotherhood banner, and psybolt ammunition: 515 pts Strikes (10): /w 2x psycannons, daemon hammer, and psybolt ammunition: 250 pts Razorback: /w psybolt ammunition: 50 pts Strikes (10): /w 2x psycannons, daemon hammer, and psybolt ammunition: 250 pts Razorback: /w psybolt ammunition: 50 pts Stormraven Gunship: /w twin-linked assault cannon, twin-linked multi-melta, hurricane pattern bolters, and psybolt ammunition: 255 pts Dreadnought: /w 2x twin-linked autocannons, and psybolt ammunition: 135 pts Dreadnought: /w 2x twin-linked autocannons, and psybolt ammunition: 135 pts (thanks to Anim8) As I have usually far fewer numbers on the board from the get go I am trying to get some long range in so I can thin some numbers down before the enemy is in range to lower my already low numbers. Does the allied attachment you posted give me range options? My goal is to thin enemy numbers to let my expensive GK units actually have the chance to pay for themselves before being thinned to 1 man. number6
That actually looks rather sweet can you point out the main uses of each model? (I am ignorant to IG pluses\weakness) There's nothing complicated about it. The Primaris Psyker (Inquisitor) goes with the Veteran Squad (Inquisitorial Troopers) in their Chimera to add additional firepower to the unit. The Vets bring much-needed high-STR / Low-AP shooting to the army; something the GK 'dex is lacking quite a bit of. Marbo (Assassin) really is a disruption unit like the "official" assassins in the GK 'dex. Except I think he's actually deadlier and more useful than any of the GK assassins, if only because he brings along a big ol' pie plate of death when he shows up. He's also less than 1/2 the points cost of any GK assassin, making him much more palatable and easier to afford. And the Vendetta is simply one of the very best flyers in the game. I run mine like a gunship. Again, lascannons bring much needed high-STR / Low-AP firepower. Napallm777
For quite a low amount of points I am very interested in this allied attachment. Do the Vets offer range? and I am sorry to blast you with 100 questions but what Box set will i need to cover the vets weapons choices? I understand the Vendetta is just a modified valk so i can work that out but what or how many boxes of units do i need to add the desired vets with their weapons? as you have suggested in your list? My main thing i seem to get hit by is losing units before mine are in range so if this list offers some longer range ill be most pleased. number6
The vendetta has the longest range. Marbo just plain appears from reserve wherever you want him, so range isn't an issue. Plasma is plasma: 24" range, same as all GK weapons. What you use to represent Vets depends on what you want them to look like. I have my old Inquisitorial Stormtrooper models -- metal IG Kasrkin stormtroopers. You could use those as well if you're willing. (There are also old metal IG stormtroopers that would suit.) I think they look terrific. However, they are probably very expensive $$ these days. :( Outside of those models, I'm not sure what you'd need to buy. Again, depends on what you want them to look like. Standard plastic Cadians would work just fine, obviously, but I couldn't tell you where to find the special weapons amongst the Cadian kits. Napallm777
Ok I went a bit nuts and bought some IG models. I bought the Cadian Battleforce 2x Chimera 2x Valkyrie 2x FW respirator upgrade kits 2x FW heavy weapons kits (for melts/plasma 2x Vendetta upgrade kits 2X FW Inquistional Chimera Doors (just to make them a little grey knightish) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276337-advice-on-allies-for-the-grey-knights/#findComment-3388752 Share on other sites
Marshal Wilhelm
What do people think of Craftworld Eldar or Tau as Allies for GK? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276337-advice-on-allies-for-the-grey-knights/#findComment-3390683 Share on other sites
Napallm777
I have heard that Tau are a nice choice for ranged combat and cheap units. Not sure about Eldar. Number6 are you able to shed light on your Vendetta setup? Dread
Eldar work pretty good. I play them but I've never used allies with any of my armies. The best thing I can tell you is get a Crimson Hunter in there for anti hell drake. number6
Fluffwise, Iyanden or Biel-Tan or Yme-loc Eldar would make for very appropriate allies. Eldar can bring a lot of longer-range shooting to the table, which will always be welcome in a GK army. The Crimson Hunter is a middle-of-the-road flyer and can be put to good use in a GK army. Reclusiarch Darius
Tau I think make better Allies than Eldar. Knights can handle melee just fine, its ranged support above 24" they'd really like. Tau struggle to not shoot below 30" (plasma rifles and fusion are about it, and they're on mobile Crisis anyway), and they hate melee. I've used them together successfully. Unfortunately we can't discuss xenos Allies on these forums, you'll have to do it elsewhere. IG are probably our best Ally anyway. They bring hordes of cheap bodies, awesome anti-tank Flyers, cheap durable tanks for blowing up enemy infantry, and board presence that cannot be ignored. All of which are great for us, as we can focus on bringing our most elite and powerful stuff leaving scoring and tanking damage to the IG. Sanguis militis
Since you already have two ravens, go either IG for more fliers since you can - correct me if I'm wrong - take 9 vendettas? 3 squadrons of 3? Or another space marine chapter like blood angels for 3 more ravens? I like storm ravens a lot incase no ones noticed from my last few posts :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276337-advice-on-allies-for-the-grey-knights/#findComment-3410607 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
You can only get 9 x Vendettas going if you take a primary IG list, then Ally Knights in. Raven spam is a bad idea for us. We're already expensive and suffer from low model count, spamming 200pt+ Flyers doesn't help us at all. DaemonForge
I love Stormravens but I have to agree with Reclusiarch Darius. Shoe-horning in more than one is a stretch... Res Ipsa Loquitur
You can make IG Plasma Guns by slicing the barrel off a lasgun and affixing the end of a SM Plasma Pistol to the lasgun's stock.
