New Terminators vs Old Terminators

So before our new release codex, I painted up a few squads of terminators using the smurfs marine box and the odd bit and piece here but nothing as detailed or ornate as the Deathwing Terminator boxes.

Has anyone effectively meshed "old" terminators into squads of "new" terminators?  How well do they blend? Or do they look like the poor cousins of the Deathwing box models?

Oliver,

From what I can tell they mesh fairly well if you spread them out some. They are a bit more detailed but one or two of the DV termi's with regular Termi's seems to work for me. If you're using the Command Squad Deathwing Box I recommend them as Elite escort types as they really really have a lot of detail and "bling" or make them Deathwing Knights. My two cents of course.

Edit: sorry just reread about the Terminator Boxes part, they seem pretty intricate to me So be ready to have some standout guys if you place them in with a normal boxed set............or transfer some bits on to the normal termi's and leave the Deathwing as little bits as possible.

DoC Sgt

I found that the dark angel termi's have slightly different mounts for front and back chest, but nothing major, and the heads socket is a little diferent too, again simple clip and fix

I used bits of an assault and shooty squads together with the arms, legs, weapons and front chest to great effect. Adds a good amount of individually to the whole by mixing two squads worth together.

You'd be best to add some of the little details from the Deathwing set to old complete models, ie the daggers, shoulder pad swap to make it all mesh together. As long as you have both painted the same way in the end they will sit together well

I've got a mixture of DV Terminators, Assault on Black Reach Terminators, Tactical Terminators and the new DW Knights and Command Squad, and syddraf is right, so long as you add in some DW detailing (such as the bits you get in the DA upgrade sprue) they mesh pretty well. Just be prepared to swap a few shoulder pads around, or change a generic assault cannon for a DA one.....

:)

My army is a mixture.

I have ~30 that are all the old assault terminators with CMLs attached to them.  Some of these include AoBR Terminator bodies that have been heavily modified and converted to Assault Terminators. I continued to use the older boxes for my rank and file guys and normal sergeants.   My old command squad is also this way, using FW Shoulderpads and small modifications to meet the new rules.  The banner on this squad will be painted to be the Standard of Fortitude.

The new models for me have gone to new Characters, Deathwing Knights, and a new command squad (planned) - My rank and file are still tending to be "normal" terminators to match the rest of the squads.  I use the Powerfists and other bits from the new boxes to bling them out, but they mesh just fine.  I'll try to take some pictures later on tonight.

Best,

Paul

Yes, that's an OOP 2nd Edition Terminator, isn't it?

This thread is a discussion of using "Vanilla" marine terminators painted to Deathwing Colors VS Building your army from DW Command Squad boxes.

No, not 2nd edition, afaik. Space Hulk.

No, not even 2nd Edition Space Hulk... Thats Rogue Trader material there, pre-1993.

Apologies for the digression down memory lane. I don't think there are any problems mixing generic terminators with the fancier Deathwing models. I echo facmanpob's suggestion of mixing up the parts where possible, though that might be harder if the generic ones are already painted. Nevertheless there are plenty of odds and ends in the Deathwing box and the Dark Angels veterans kit that can be retrospectively added.
