Drop Podding Wolf Lords

In 5e it was two packs of large, close-combat oriented Wolf Scout packs. They combined with Pod Hunter packs admirably, and assaulting out of BEL was very effective.

In 6e the plan is to use a largish SwiftClaw pack; it has excellent Tactical Mobility, and still assaults well. Also, I have them, which is important, as I don't have to buy, build, and get any new units painted. However, I haven't gotten to play a 6e game yet, so the unit is as yet untested for me.

I like swiftclaws too, in theory. Haven't yet played with them. But on the charge, they're about as good as TWC. And a turn 1 turbo boost and 4+jink gets them into position safely. Not to mention: You can put Rune Priests on bikes, but you can't put them on TWC. And putting your ICs on bikes saves you drop pod slots. So yeah, nice complement for drop pods.

The reason I said jetbikes (somewhat whimsically) is that they are kinda like swiftclaws, but they're troop choices. They have shuriken catipults (so MUCH more shooty than swiftclaws) and seer councils are kinda awesome when mixed in. They're ridiculously mobile, and with Shrouded, actually more durable (barring Ignores Cover), shootier, and considerably cheaper than swiftclaws. That said, you would have to make Eldar your primary force to be able to take seer councils. Which means you're limited to maybe 2 grey hunter packs and a wolf guard pack for your podders. May or may not fit your playstyle.

Oh, and swiftclaws are much nicer looking. I plan on getting 10 of the mk iv outriders from FW some day and converting them into swiftclaws. MM!

Yeah, I had swiftclaws in my list as they seem to fit really well in this edition with an IC leading them. The pack I had was probably a bit overzealous (Had RP, WP and a tooled up WG). I may seriously think about adding them back and settle on them for the list.

definatly the land speeder typhoons, but any land s^peeder varriant has it's ussed (a dual MM one will tear up tank, dual HF will roast any 4+ models off an objective, etc). against some armies you just need that long range mobile power to hunt them down.

back in 5th and 4th edition i had a lot of succes with my swiftclaws.

OK, I would really like to add Swiftclaws to my DP army, but what about reserves. How many units have to start on the board.

For example, I have 3 DP units (GH), unit of Swiftclaws with a RP and a Speeder. What has to start on the board?

I would like to play swift and quick army, but I struggle to get to the enemy quickly. I have played ageinst TAU and he totally outgunned me. Suits are ridiculously deadly (with a Shadowsun or what) and his FW with the Etheral have so many shots they can possibly erase a squad a turn...

Any advice?

Half, rounding up, of your units- and their dedicated transports- can be in reserves. If your whole army has dedicated transports that have to start in reserve, they can all be reserved. In your above example you have a total of 5 units, and so the swiftclaws and speeder will need to be on the board, in cover.

And vs the tau? With DPs? Hittem hard and then, hit him again. That firewarrior squad wont be so scary after it takes a whirlwinds pie plate to the back of the head. Suits should get hit by Landspeeder Typhoons tossing down Krak Missiles and insta-killing them outright. Broadsides get plasma and bolters, same for the riptide.

Take big, ten man squads, and deploy them *using the nifty 6" and your inertial guidance systems to best effect* in as much cover as you can to mitigate his low ap shooting- theres not much that can markerlight you for interceptor shots after all.

At that point you should be close in and he should be nice and bloody. Just keep the pressure on, assault from the outward edges in, making it harder for him to get multiple squads overwatching a single unit. If overwatch is really whats crippling you then it might be worth it to bring Dreadnaughts. Yes, theyre 'soft targets' for some of the taus anti-tank fire, but with heavy flamers and assault cannons they mulch firewarriors like no ones business... and they absorb S5 shots with impunity. Charge it in first, make him waste his overwatch on a unit he cant hurt, and then bring in the GHs to get the job done.
