Still can't decide on which Legion I want

Recommended Posts

I'll edit this post to explain the plus points and minuses when I get home as I'm busy eating at the moment

Edit:

Iron hands:

Pro's: Ferrus is a bad ass! I love the bionics. The main dude (sarge/captain?) in the audio drama Veritas ferrum had a unique sounding voice due to his bionic which made me want to convert a model of him.

Con's: I'm not sure i like the paint scheme

Salamanders:

Pro's: I've not read the Salamander books but i've heard the audio drama and I liked what i heard about the promethean creed. Also i really like what little i've read of Vulcan.

Con's: My 40k armies are Dark angel's and Nurgle Chaos space marines/daemon so i've about had enough of painting green

Iron warriors:

Pro's: I really like Perturabo after reading Angel exterminatus. Also i really enjoyed the story of the loyal Iron warriors in Age of darkness (i think that's the book) so maybe a loyalist force...

Con's: Silver... BORING :)

World eaters:

Pro's: Already have Angron. Like the rampager squads a lot.Interesting conversion opportunities.

Con's: Painting white is a ball ache. Not to excited with the legion as a whole.

As for the first legion i already have a dark angels force for 40k so i'm going to try not to have them for 30k as well :P

Hmm, well for some reason I feel the need to say the Iron Hands or the Salamanders.

They are the front runners at the moment :)

Salamanders, dude. Bro Marines.

Iron Hands are totally not bros.

Bro Marines?

Listen, son. This is WAR. Do you know what that means? It means people get killed and things get broken. It's inevitable. And the more time you waste trying to protect everyone and everything, the less time you can devote to killing the enemies of the Imperium, who will then kill other people and break more things in the places you aren't.

Salamanders may be able to ignore bloodshed when it isn't directly in front of their noses. Others cannot afford to be so short sighted. Only when every mutant, every heretic, every xenos has been reaved from the face of the galaxy will the people of the Imperium be safe.

;)

I say either Iron Hands,If you don't like their colors just add random color as if they salvaged their armor from dead traitors or something like that, besides they need some loving anyways OR Iron Warriors and if you don't like the plain silver then maybe dirtying them up could help. Maybe if you have a hard time you should paint one marine from each of your favs and which ever looks the best in your opinion is the one you pick. My suggestions may not help but oh well I am sure you will pick something awesome.

There was a guy who did a commission for a sallies hh army back on the hall of honor which was ball achingly good but it all depends on what you want to see in the future.

F'rex:

  • The sallies are supposed to get a unit of pyre gaurd (iirc) who, according to those at the weekender, is the "most made of win unit yet" - so possibly a broken or just very good unit which you might like to use
  • Sallies don't do much the rest of the war as they are pretty much obliterated during Isstvan V (ahh darn should've done a spoiler tag ;) )
  • Sallies colors are hard to get as you don't want to make them look too much like dark angels or too much like lime fiesta marines

If you want to use unique tanks, vehicles, walker, and mechanicum I would definitely suggest either Iron Hands or warriors and the hands had kind of a cool color scheme on the laser destroyer tank imo

Its all about what you want to see your army as later down the line

Well I guess if you play as the Lion's sons, then you wont have to worry about being a loyalist or traitor...you can do your own thing :)

The Lion is, if anything, pragmatic....*BANG**BANG* (bolter fire heard in the background, "Die traitor filth!")....

Well, it's nice to see you take your fluff to heart, but really, if none of these four schemes inspires you, are you sure you want to paint a force of any of these?

Are there any legions you like the look of? If so, why were they rejected?

Death guard and dark angels, problem is I'm already painting, slowly, armies of each for 40k.

Two of my work mates are doing sons of horus night Lords and raven guaurd.

Ultras. No. Not for any other reason than I hate the roman vibe.

White scars I don't like the sound of mongols in space.

Space wolves, thousand sons, imperial fists, emperors children all have things I like but none of them grab me as such.

Alpha legion I don't really know, even after all that's been written about them so far .so a maybe.

Blood angels. Lovr the primarch but not fussed about the Legion.

How about this... You're doing 40K Death Guard, right? Do a HH Era Death Guard army, but do it as a mirror of your 40K Force. For example, do your Lord but how he would have been in 30K, Heresy Era versions of vehicles and Dreadnoughts, etc.

Dusk raider, that's what I'm doing with my Iron Warriors, gives me some continuity!

Andy, I'd suggest a Loyalist army if there's already two Traitors.

Or

Why not do a few squads of the ones you like the most, a combined army?

Take the iron to the stone! You can spruce Iron Warriors up a bit by adding in more yellow and black chevroning. So they wouldn't be totally boring to paint. Plus you can do some cool cybernetic conversions to the Iron Warriors, just like you can to the Iron Hands.
