Greyshift
I'm starting a heresy iron hands force themed around the Isstvan 5 massacre and want them to be heavily weathered. I've been inspired by Orc Painter Nerd's Death Guard predator (check out the tutorial on YouTube) where he makes use of chipping fluid to help weather the tank, which gives a really nice beat up look. Does anyone know if this technique would work well on a marine sized mini? And with predominantly black armour what would be the best 'undercoat' to use to show through the chips? I'm thinking a bare steel look would work but would like to hear your thoughts. Durus
I looked up the . So my impression is that it is mainly suited for large easy accessible surfaces, i.e. tanks. Probably works on marines too, but you'd have to be a lot more careful. Sponge weathering is probably faster and easier on an infantry sized model. Another alternative that will also probably be cheaper, than buying chipping/masking fluid for an entire army would be to use the salt and hairspray method. I think there was an army painting log on here a while back where somebody painted bikes, infantry and tanks in one go. Was a turquoise army with a rust effect. Can't find the thread anymore though. Weathering black is tricky. If you don't use a brighter or a metal color or something like that, most other colors will be hard to see, that does not really leave much choices that would look sensible on PA unless you want to go for orange rust specks that would be out of character for IH. But you can always add dirt around the legs and elbows. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276648-chipping-fluid/#findComment-3391017 Share on other sites
Greyshift
Thanks mate I'll try to find the thread, I know the easy answer is to try a test model and there'll be one soon but hoping that someone may have tried it out. If anyone has seen it used I'd be really interested in seeing some photos. I think the toothbrush used on the video will be far too big for infantry but maybe an old cut down drybrush might give a bit more control?
