Question about standards/banners. I need help

Recommended Posts

Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

I need your help.

One of my current projects requires a rather large standard/banner for a CSM army. Do you have any bitz to suggest? I'm actually looking for something larger than the standard CSM kits banners.

I also have another problem you may help me to solve.

I'd like to put on the banner a logo printed on paper/adhesive labels. Do you have any suggestion on how to make it?

For example I download the Chapter logos from B&C file collection and then what should I do? Since I do not have the resrources/know-how to print actual decals what should I do?

Thank You very much for your help.. I really need it.

I think your best bet would be, for a single banner to design it 2d and then find a helpful person on this or another board who wants to play with their 3d modelling software to turn it into a wavy 3d flag with pole, then send the file to a 3d printer and get it done that way.

Well I was thinking about a larger stendard... anyway I think the simplesr solution would be using a pole of some sort (the one from CSM kit or even better the Sorcerer staff from the Chaos Lord, possibly removing the upper icon), print the image and find a way to glue its "rear" to the pole. I could even give the "waved" effect to the paper in order to create a "fabric effect". Or I can simply decide the banner is made from a metallic substance, thuse no "waved effect" needed ;)

Putting it on the pole ... just fold it over.

You print out the banner in one long strip.  The back of the banner should be upside down on top of the front of the banner.  Fold it over the cross bar.  Done.

For something that used to be a standard (no pun intended) I did not see anything with a quick Google search.  I did find a tutorial from From The Warp on cardstock banners tho.

I have made a few printed banners and they will always look like a printed page.  It's OK for game time but you will never get best army with them.  You can also find printable cotten fabric sheets at most any fabric store which looks a little better because of the texture you get.  Fold it, glue it with PVA and shape it while its wet.  Easy as sin.

To paraphrase an Angry Marine, "to hell with that clothy piece of crap."  Your Chaos Marines should have dead Guardsmen billowing on their standard's poles!  Have them impaled through the shoulder with his feet fluttering in the breeze.  Alternatively you could have the banner be daemonic, something like a Pink Horror hanging or growing out of the pole.  For that I would use this Horror with some green stuff to make it look like he and the banner are one twisted and merged thing.  A Bloodletter could be crucified on one too.  For Nurgle, the banner could be made of Nurglings. For Slaanesh...well use your imagination as I think I could get banned for even PMing what kind of banner you could make for that.

Fibonacci already posted a good tutorial.

Just to add another possibility here, if you don't like the look of paper you could make them out of plasticcard. The material doesn't necessarily have to be as fancy as the one in the article, some people use old plastic signs or telephone cards (do those even exist anymore?) or something similar. Then, if you have the digital image that you want to use, glue the printed picture on and paint over it to avoid the "printed page" look.

Thank You very much for the information Fibonacci! I really appreciate it!

Actually I don't plan to get the best army award. It's just a tribute to a very good friend of mine, that's all ;)

As I said above the project is a sort of tribute to a very good friend of mine... it's a long story msn-wink.gif

Thanks for your suggestion! I think I should have some old telephone card... I used to collect them when I was a child msn-wink.gif
