Chaplain Admetus
I Chaplain Admetus, answer the call of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete ten (10) Death Company (two power swords and a power fist), one (1) Sanguinary Priest (jump pack) and one (1) Mephiston from Codex: Blood Angels of total value 660 points on or before August 15th. Success will bring eternal glory to the Angels Sanguine (and by extension the Blood Angels) and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of Shame until the year-end And here we go! I've waited til my first thing was complete to give people some shiny shinies to look at :P. Starting off with our very own chief librarian, Mephiston (who has yet to be given a new name in his Angels Sanguine role!) Caveat - I've improved, but I'm still not the best painter, so the results may be less than stellar. Fair warning! Mephy has had his previous (dire) paint job removed, been glued back together in a fashion befitting a chief librarian, and resprayed - time to start painting! WIP shot - base colours are on. Gone for a darker approach as that's the way my army tends to lead. I've done the hair grey as I wanted a more distinguished look to him. 'Finished' product - front and rear shots. Time permitting I may redo some bits and add a few more highlights, but for now he's complete to a tabletop standard! Next up will be either a priest or some of the death company. Any C&C welcome, as its not too late to tweak bits of Mephiston :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276822-chaplain-admetus-e-tenebrae-lux-thread/ Share on other sites
Chaplain Admetus
Urgh - looks kinda naff in the supreme close ups... stupid phone camera with a small display. It looks better in person than in quadruple size :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276822-chaplain-admetus-e-tenebrae-lux-thread/#findComment-3393338 Share on other sites
Squirrelloid
It doesn't look so bad. I like the worn bone look of his 'muscled' chest plates.  Some things you might do: The skulls at the top of his cape... thing.. could use some weathering. The pure white is rather much. (Alternately, go back to black, and then drybrush the white on, or work it up through some greys in lighter drybrushings so there's more depth to them).  The plasma pistol could use a lighter blue highlight on the plasma core, and maybe a different color on the muzzle (separated from the rest of the gun by the differences in plates as clearly delineated on the model.) The gun just needs some work to pop.  Someone is probably going to pop in and say the gem needs to be done differently. I dunno, I can't be bothered to do mine right either, because it never looks right to me when I try.  The hair could use more depth of shading. The overall effect is too light and doesn't give enough depth. (Edit: Maybe a wash?) Boomkapow
A wash of Reikland Flesh Shade on the skulls, chest, etc. would really make them pop. May be worth a shot? Looks great though! Chaplain Admetus
Right - the last batch of updates! Caveat - I don't have a close-up photo of my priest with just his undercoat because that seems to have vanished into the ether...best I can do is point him out in a batrep photo if required where you can see he's unpainted :/. Again, apologies for poor picture quality - new phone and that's the best I have, sadly. Priest with the base colours put on - working up from a black undercoat I've coated his right half red, and the grey is on the areas that are going to be white in the end. These are just the very first basecoats. And finished - Dawnstone layer followed by skull white for the white areas; Mephiston Red washed with Agrax Earthshade gets the red. Also found the time for highlights :P. Death Company 'before' shot. The models are mostly from back when I was about 9 or 10 and a bit slap-happy with the paintbrush, and never been touched since. The slightly darker red ones are ones I inherited from elsewhere. I didn't like the very red look, so went for a complete colour change - this was taken before repainting them black and touching up from there. The first five (including a power sword on the far right). The black's been tightened up and I've given it highlights, and instead of the red everywhere I've gone for bone decorations (Rakarth Flesh with an Agrax Earthshade wash for shading), picking out details and the saltire in red - I personally much prefer it to the red everywhere approach. Death Company #s 5 through 10, containing the power fist (far left) and second power sword (2nd from right). Some of the highlighting looks different as I experimented with different colours - some have the black highlighted with dawnstone, some with thunderhawk blue. Still can't decide which I like better, leaning towards dawnstone though. And finally, a shot of the three specialists - Power Fist flanked by Power Swords. Vow Complete! :D I'll get better pictures if I can, but hopefully these will do!
