Fulgrim a Let Down?

So, is the only way to convey rage and motherf@$?%ing anger to open your mouth wide to look as though you're trying out for most flexible dental patient, all the while making a frowny face?  Of course not.

Just a thought/question on this point.

Perhaps on a 28 mm mini it is the only way. This is the smallest of canvases so perhaps there's no room for Mona Lisas in the facial expressions of these models. How do you sculpt burning anger in eyes that are no more than 0.5 mm wide? How much variation can we actually notice in the subtle furrowing of a tiny brow? Maybe they have to throw subtlety out the window and telegraphing emotion becomes the only practical solution.

I'd be genuinely interested to see if there are any depictions of anger on a 28 mm model that is not a variant of the traditional shouty face. If anyone knows of one, do point me at it. Just because I can't recall one, doesn't mean there isn't one ;)

@Cormac Airt: although I disagree with you, I really enjoyed and laughed at the wonderful imagery you conjured in your last post :D

Well maybe he was pressing his face against some glass on his storm bird making faces at the loyalists and the wind changed and he got stuck that way, I get where everyone's coming from but I just feel that as a primarch it's true to the timing of the piece maybe he was mid yawn when the pict was taken and that was the only photographic evidence they could work off of, but I think he was never going to please anyone. Maybe old morty will be better but I think will have this same reaction. For years we all looked forward to the primarchs and now they are here I think after angron everyone will nitpick the F&$k out of them.

I don't think it's all that bad, Jaspcat. Most people who had a problem with Fulgrim I seem to love Fulgrim II. And the only thing that crops up again and again about Fulgrim I is the mouth. I just think the modeler, who is certainly amazing, stumbled on the face of this one, which he even kind of noticed and apologized for by providing Fulgrim II. He seems to have hit two out of three out of the ballpark, with very little criticism in comparison. I have extremely high hopes on the next Primarch. Is it Mortarion? I haven't been keeping track. Like someone else mentioned here already, the Primarchs are Pokemon. Gotta catch 'em all.

And really, a complaint about the face isn't as major as what it could have been. Like I've said already, a simple helmet swap would remove the offending issue rather elegantly.

Besides, you can't tell me that model, or Angron's, wouldn't look absolutely amazing if it had a helm matching the rest of the armour.

@Cormac - I understand and can see where people stand & I agree on collecting them all. I think mortarion or ferrus is next but I'm sure I read somewhere ferrus will be released with massacre.

Helmets I'm not so sure about. A primarchs personal mark and helmet would be difficult to pull off I think. Hopefully we will see multiple sculpts especially with mkii fulgrim in the works

I am wondering if filling the edges of his mouth alittle and then using some green stuff  may help out his mouth but I would need the mini in my hand to be able to tell if that would work.

@Cormac Airt... I think in the book "Fulgrim" Fulgrim is wearing a fancy helmet during the final battle with the Laer(Though the description escapes me) but I agree with the thought that  helmets can look cool, even though I prefer no helmets, maybe the Primarchs should come with helmet options I am sure the would catch a lot of people's eye.

During one of the seminars "forging a primarch" if im remembering correctly.. Tony Cotrell said that angron had a 2nd model that wouldnt be released as it was to get the size & anatomy down. Angron only has one significant change & thats his ascension to demonhood.. The angron we have can be angron duing the crusade, istvaan & after.

Ferrus will have 1 model as they mentioned he only has 1 major change and it doesnt need a model..

Sam told me that he made the 2nd fulgrim after reading a post on the FW facebook page by a french girl saying she'd been waiting years for a true fulgrim model & that as nice as the model was it wasnt what she'd hoped for. He thought "**** i've really let her down!" and understood that the duel fulgrim lacks that element of his nature that many wanted.

He was given 2 briefs on the fulgrim model, either the duel with mannus or something loosely based on the fall of the banner on laer (if my fluff fu isnt failing me) whilst talking about this he said that his boss didnt know hed even made the 2nd one until he arrived with him for the the weekend & many of the fw team made jokes that it now took him no time at all to knock a primarch out rather than the 4 months he took on angron.

The general consensus is that 2nd fulgy will get released due to the positive feedback it got & that it wasnt a planned release.

My info is based purely on conversations with sam & the various seminars i attended (most of them) at no point did they state "3 models for each primarch" they did say the demon forms needed doing due to them being all gribbly at terra, they said horus needed to be done after ferrus because he changes from how he is in betrayal before too long and in sams words "ill get lynched if i dont do him soon" pushing morty back further (ARGH!)

I think that blogger has jumped to conclusions personally, its happened a lot since the weekend, ie salamander upgrades (marks personal sculpts) and several other bits (1k son model etc)

I agree that this might be difficult, which could account for the prevalence of the "shouty face". However, compare Abaddon I to Abaddon II.

In my opinion the first one looks "angrier" and more "menacing" while the second looks like he is trying to show off his molar fillings. I haven't gone through to check, but I'm pretty sure that if we were to peruse the entire GW 40K and Fantasy ranges, we're going to find a range of facial expressions. I could be wrong, of course, but that being said, I don't think these open mouthed bellows are universals.

It is almost as if people don't understand that fighting against your most beloved brother isn't exactly a time to be standing around preening.

Neither is it a time to be practicing for the Slaaneshi Sausage eating contest...

Ha! Fulgrim eats sausage.
