new codex and the worry that it gives me.

They rarely take away whole units, or if they do, they give an alternative use for the models comprising the unit. Mostly they alter wargear options, either by eliminating, including, or changing the rules on pieces of wargear, causing you to break down, rip off, or convert arms/loadouts of models.

Either way, you've still got half a year easily before we can expect a new codex.

Yeah, half a year is about the earliest it would happen.

The best advice I can give is to magnetize all your special weapon arms etc. So, plasma, flamer, power weapon/fist, etc etc. That way if the points costs or rules of certain pieces of wargear shift round (or if more wargear options pop up), you can just switch arms (or make a new magnetized arm)

You are putting too much thought into the threads popping up here about a new codex. Just build and enjoy your army. Plenty of us have been around a very, very long time and the changes from one codex to another were not devatating. The elimination of the Eye of Terror codex gave a few of us a beating, but didn't kill anyone. Some of us have gone through tons of money on Wolves, not because the codex has changed, but because we just want to build a new Wolves army. Counting my 13th Co army from Eye of Terror, I have easily bought, built, and sold 4 or 5 SW armies.

Should we worry.... well lets look at recent history.

In the last codex update one model was invalidated- the Leman Russ we could take. In return for the first time in a decade some of the 2nd edition models became usable again- particularly jumppacking priests. The 13nth company suppliment was invalidated, but that wasnt an unexpected move and the relatively small army had a good... seven year run?

Grey Hunters doubled the number of special weapons they could take but halved the number of special close combat weapons. Bloodclaws lost a few options, wolf guard pack leaders gained a few. We added one new HQ- Canis- and regained an old favorite- Bjorn- in place of his generic version. Oh, and we lost the use of the Landspeeder Storm, wich wed had access to less than a year. I was actually a little miffed about that.

So, considering the number of units, amount of wargear, and structure of the book- nobody should be worried. Peoples fears are more to do with the changes 6th edition has made to how codexes are made and the usual nail-biting due to GWs hit or miss way of making rules.

I do not think we will get an update for awhile. And I dont think they will invalidate any units we have now.  We will only get an update when they have a few new models to add to our army.  A wolfy flier, or anti air option.  They could stave off a required update for awhile if they gave us flakk missiles and stormraven access.

You shouldn't worry, most of the stuff will be eligible when the codex arrives, which may be months and even years away. All the infantry figures will usable after a new codex, what might happen is that some special stuff gets so tweaked that they will not be used. I doubt they will do what they did to chaos after the 3,5 codex when some stuff became totally unplayable, Slaanesh bikers with sonic weaponry was lost as an option, I had invested and converted 36 of those bikes, but that will probably not happen to any of the SW minis. Even if many ridicule and moan about TW for example, GW will keep them in the new codex as they have invested money into the minis, which they never had with Slaanesh bikers. Everything else is standard for any marine chapter, except the characters, and we can be pretty sure they keep Njal, Logan, Ragnar, and Ulrik, any other character can be played as wolf guard, wolf lord or even grey hunter if they are in PA.

We will probably see some changes in the fluff of some characters and some stuff added like others have said.
