Word Bearers - WarGamesCon 2013 (HQ close-ups added)

There's still a great deal of touch-up work I'd like to do on these guys (mostly on the Rhinos - please ignore them), but for now I wanted to showcase my pride and joy Word Bearers army that I took to WarGamesCon this year, mostly because the lighting in the tournament hall is far better than anything I can manage to do in my apartment. Unfortunately, the picture of my second maulerfiend came out too blurry to try and show to anyone, so I'll have to add pictures of him later.

I want to thank everyone who helped me out when I posted a few random threads asking for painting advice while I was working on this army (most notably an "oh :cuss oh :cuss oh :cuss" thread when my heldrake's wings weren't staying up). My camera takes giant pictures, so click the image for larger versions.

It's always nice to see an army when it all starts to come together finally. Don't worry about the Rhinos, you've got time to finish them and in the mean time you have a well painted army to be proud of. Really like the silver helmets on select models that's a nice touch.

Is that a lord on a juggernaut wielding the poweraxe?

He runs with the squad of bikes next to him, or if I can't afford the bikes, a unit of unmarked Chaos spawn. The Champion gets no upgrades and a random bro has the Icon of Wrath for the reroll charge distance. Occasionally I'll break the Lord off to go on his merry way alone, but that's rare.

I know he gets Fleet if he joins the unit of Spawn, but in my experience the Spawn unit only lasts long enough to get the Lord to the first assault. The bikes on the other hand, last a bit longer.

Here we go, some close-up shots.  Apologies again for the lighting.

I love your use of Krell's axe from the fantasy range with the khorne markers.. I hope you don't mind if I borrow that for a project of mine :) *chuckles* I have to say between your two maulers I mean no offence but the one with the 'humanoid' head I ... really don't take a fancy too, the rest of the army is quite good and I like a lot of it though the Great unclean one makes me wish I could go to tournies that were hard core on the write up "games workshop models, or 50% Games workshop supply conversion piece only models" :/ or I admit he would be a cool guy to have...

No offense taken, nobody actually likes him. The best compliment I get for him is "God damn that's creepy," hehe. Still, I knowingly went for a discordant look between his head and body, and I know that it doesn't appeal to everyone.

As for the axe, I don't mind at all! I had been sitting on a finecast Krell mini that I was going to convert into Astorath for my Night Lords army for some time, a project that got "indefinitely" shelved first when I honed my Dante army, and then when 6th Edition dropped. I basically just shaved off the VC emblem on the axe and covered up the ugly shavings with Khornate emblems, it was a pretty simple conversion.

God, I couldn't stand it if my tournies forbade non-GW models. I though that policy went out the window completely when GW stopped supplying prize support to tournaments, though. The "official" greater daemon models all blow chunks, in my opinion. The only exception is the Lord of Change. My GUO is an Ultraforge model. Great stuff, I recommend it.

I've been on this board a long time, and I've seen all phases of what everyone considered 'great' painting, and usually these fine specimens are showcased one to 10 models at a time.

To this day nothing impresses me more than seeing a full army painted up with the creativity you've shown here. Not all of it is my up of tea, but an army at this level is indeed a rarity. It looks fantastic. You should be really proud.

I need to decide on a scheme (again!) myself and posts like this really get the creative juices going.

I am not familiar with the Juggernaught model (fantasy? Or Daemon line?) but integrating the Khorne lord is a great idea, with a nice mix of using the original arm, and biker legs. It doesn't look unusual that he won't quite sit down... he looks ready to pounce. A beautiful job on the subtle (and not so subtle) conversions.

My chaotic, pointy hat is off to you.
