Order of the Frozen Heart - ETL2 WIP

Recommended Posts

So, after my work schedule got changed around a lot and I got bad news laid on me I decided I needed some mental downtime and finished prep work for my vow:

So here are three 10 women BS squads with heavy flamer and flamer and a 6 women Dominion squad with 2 meltaguns. In the back are two Rhinos, an Immolator and two FW Exorcist launchers, dry-fitted together.

The bases are the work of a company named Base-X-of-War ( http://www.base-x-of-war.com/index.html ) which are awesome. I basically got bases for all my army and a few spares for under 50€ and the quality is stellar. Perfect molds, no flaws except for some 1/2cm bubbles on the bottom of the bases but who cares for those. I could use them straight out of the bag without any cleanup work except for giving them a quick soak in soapy water. If their other products are even 2/3 of the quality I can heartily recommend them. And being able to base a whole squad for about 6€ is also a plus compared to similar products of the competition.

And here we have the rest of the vow: one sealed Rhino and two sealed Immolators that will be the basis for the Exorcists. Hopefully I can get them all primed today while the weather lasts; forecast doesn't look good...

Will most likely update as soon as I got the first layer of paint on them which may or may not happen tomorrow

Well, guess what? Things didn't work out as planned/hoped. Literally minutes after my first post, while I was gathering everything for priming outside, the heavens opened their flood gates and it has been raining nearly constantly since then. Only time we had no rain was when I was at work or asleep (go figure...).

This morning was the first day we had no rain when I was off and awake so I grabbed the chance by the balls and primed as much as I could. Basically everything from the first pic is primed now (black) and I am currently drybrushing everything with a dark grey. The three sealed Rhino chassi are not primed yet but rain was approaching and I am hoping for another moment of dry weather so I can avoid spray painting in the basement. Bases will be primed with a brush on primer since the colors I have in mind for them are not suited for a black primer.

Images of progress will most likely follow some time near the end of the coming week.

A quick update before I got to go to work:

Everything that was primed is now drybrushed a dark grey color and I started with the first layers of white. For someone who used to use color straight from the pot without thinning this new technique of thin layers is quite a challenge I have to say but I think it will turn out well in the end if I can keep it up.

A quick question though: does anyone have the link to a guide how to paint crystal formations? I have an idea how to go about it but my trials were less than satisfactory. Thanks in advance.

Well.... it has finally come to this: I have to concede defeat in this year's E Tenebrae Lux and thus declare my vow failed.

After being unexpectedly lain off at the start of July most of my time has been focused on finding a new job and after succeeding there moving to another country for work. With only five days left to fulfill the vow, only having the foot soldiers with more than a layer of drybrushing and only one more off day till the deadline I see no way of fulfilling my vow.

It really pains me to admit this since I was looking forward to see my models finally painted in a unified color but that is how things are.
