GodEmperorOfMankind
Well Chaps, thought I'd show you all a list I'm looking at making, just for the sheer hell of it. Centurion, combat shield, volkite Serpentia = 60 2x Tactical Squad, melta on sarge = 310 Legion Tactical Support, 10 men, Rotor cannons = 220 Legion Tactical Support, 10 men, Rotor cannons = 220 Legion Heavy Support, 10 men, Autocannons = 285 Legion Heavy Support, 10 men, Autocannons = 285 3 Quad H bolter rapiers = 120 1500 Figure it should be a good laugh against my most regular opponent that plays IG, as long as he doesn't go for a mech list ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277059-1500-pts-of-dakka/ Share on other sites
geordie
It does look like a laugh, apart from the fact if you built this with FW stuff it'd cost you the best part of £500. Forget a mech guard list, I'd like to see you take down a couple of landraiders before they disgorge enough choppy death to eat through this army one unit at a time. Wouldn't fancy bringing my orks for a game though! As an aside I've found making a balanced list from Betrayal at 1500 points challenging. They really did design it with bigger games in mind. At 1500 you always seem to be a bit short in one area. With this list you could make a few changes which would make a huge difference to effectiveness but still leave the shooty infantry theme intact. Two five man squads of autocannons. One five man squad of rotor cannons. Two large tactical squads. Keep the rapiers. A five man plasma support squad and a five man lascannon heavy support squad. Power fists on all sergeants. Only done the maths in my head but I think it fits. I'm not entirely convinced rotor cannons are that good having looked at their stats. In a 40k game yes but not against MEQ's. What is their role meant to be, I mean in general, not just in your list. Their use in the great crusade is obvious, cutting down swathes of lightly armoured xenos. The FW models do look amazing, it's a pity they haven't got a bit more punch. GodEmperorOfMankind
I agree with you, the rotor cannons on paper do nothing against MEQ's I'm guessing they're in there for use against the imperial army in books to come. Having said that, in the numbers I've taken them, that's 80 shots a turn if they're stationary, pure weight of fire should do some damage. Another reason I want to field rotor cannons is because they look so frigging cool! That and my main opponent plays IG, so squish! Again I agree with you on 1.5k being a bit on the small side, but as I'm the only one in my group that want's to play 30k, I have to bow to peer pressure and stick with 40k sizes if I want to field crusade marines. Yeah any landraiders (or any heavy armour) mean I'm humped, it's not really a list to try and win games with, just to have some fun. I do fully intend to make this list at some point though, and probably before my company in 1.5k points list (also posted in this sub). Your suggested changes do seem to make more sense, but with only 1 5man squad of rotor cannons I doubt they would be an effective unit, they'd be better off adding numbers to the autocannon squads or maybe even Heavy bolters? Would HB's benefit from Fury of the legion? They are bolt weapons. I assume the 5man plasma would be for termie hunting? Why the lascannon squad, wouldn't rapiers with laser destroyers be cheaper and more effective? plus T7 Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277059-1500-pts-of-dakka/#findComment-3401384 Share on other sites
geordie
The rotor cannons do look cool. Good shout on the laser destroyers on the rapiers, never though of that. I was just trying to think of ways to get some more anti tank in there and some ap2/3. There's a lot of variety in terms of support weapons in the book so a footslogging shooty list could be decent. If you said a ten man squad of each? Ten autocannons and ten rotor cannons. You could split them into two 5's for more versatility if needed. A couple more toys on the Centurion and a few more power fists would leave around 400 points. I'd add another ten man support/heavy support squad with different weapons and use the rest of the points to boost up the tacticals/hq's. Ten missile launchers are versatile, frag or krak. I'd look into the centurion being either a chaplain or primus medicae as a force multiplier. Dono1979
Rotor Cannons are hilarious fun, and you are right, sheer weight of fire will inflict wounds which do not get saved. I ran a fun list which contained only a single ten man Rotor squad and they minced opposing squads, they are cheap and cheerful. GodEmperorOfMankind
See that just makes me want them even more. People will laugh at them and think they have nothing to fear, then blam!
