hey B&C...

here is the first piece i've painted just for fun, after ten years of commission work and contests...

it was fun to just mess around again...

i think i over did it a little with my lighting...

i'll try another round soon...

brightness aside, i hope you like what you see...

it was fun to build this guy when the Sanguinary Guard kit came out...

unfortunately, it took me three years to get back around to him...

i'll be taking the gold recipe (heavy on the Sanguine Base for shading), and increasing the contrast a bit more for the next golden guy i paint, the Big E...

thanks for looking...

i hope you like him...

cheers

jah

thanks for the kind words, guys...

i'm not happy with the lighting in these photos...

the top of the jump pack should be shiny, as that is were the most light hits, and how i painted it:(...

i'll definitely be doing another round of pics...

as to the gold recipe, the main color is Vallejo Air Gold (used as a brush-on, not sprayed)...

the shadows are glazes of P3 Sanguine Base...

highlights are Vallejo Air Aluminium...

so, whatever your prefered painting style is, just play around with those three color...

i build up my golds from black, through P3 Rhulic Gold and Battlefield Brown 1-1, followed by pure Rhulic, then an old pot of GW Burnished Gold, building a nice solid basecoat, and then pure VA Gold where the light would hit...

this is shaded with many very thin layers of Sanguine Base, until i get the shadows i like...

highlights are a mix of VA Gold and VA Aluminium 1-1...

the hard edges are given a final touch of pure Aluminium, and done...

hope that helps...

cheers

jah
