twopounder
I'm working on another set of custom bolters for my green marines. I'm planning on having them 3d printed so I can fill out a squad or three. First up, the X-1:http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/169/0/0/x_1a_by_gunmonkey-d69m25b.pngAbove: The bolter without any upgrades attached. You can see two flash suppressor types, two magazine types, and the optional reflex sight.Below: Attached auspex for the sergeants. I'm working on shot of the front that includes the flashlight, but it takes a very long time to render these.http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/170/4/1/x_1d_by_gunmonkey-d69sh31.pngBelow: Flashlight attachment shown.http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/171/1/1/x_1d__rendered__by_gunmonkey-d69uuok.png Above: Front of X-1 with all upgrades and the front of the auspex. Below: X-1 with optional ACOG. http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/172/7/2/x_1e_by_s3dition-d6a1emz.png Profile of X-1 with ACOG: http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/172/e/a/x_1f_by_s3dition-d6a2akk.png I've sketched out 11 designs, plus a shotgun, that I'm going to try to model. They'll have RIS, interchangeable magazines (cut, straight, banana, and drum), auspex, suppressor, and some will have combi-weapons.
pueriexdeus
This is very ambitious. I look forward to seeing some proof of concept pieces.
Rajden
I could see some of those on my models. Keep us updated will ya! ;)
Stormtrooper-VII
This looks promising. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece.
Biggabertha
Very interesting and very nice renders! Having done/tried some 3D modeling in my engineering degree, I know how much of a pain it is to get some of this out (especially on a barely-meets-the-requirements-computer!) and I really like your design of attachments too! Very clever! Yes, please do keep us informed!!
twopounder
Thanks everyone! I'll work on the scope and magazines after work today. I updated the initial post with a render of the front of the bolter. That took 3 hours to fully render :/.
Isiah
Don't tell me about rendering times twopounder - wotk colleagues of mine have a 7-PC render farm and some of their stuff (engineering / architecture / still and moving images) still takes a weekend or more to render. Anyway really interesting creative designs there. But I'm thinking the auspex doesn't look very 'Astartes' as it's too slick and too well designed. Needs more pipes/power cables, rivets and lumpy bolted on stuff - oh and skulls . Cheers I

Also, this bolter is meant to be clean and "high speed." I have a bunch of sketches I made, and others are more traditional. I can probably make some other optional parts though. One can never have too many ridiculous torches and scrolls hanging off advanced computer equipment :P
twopounder
Added ACOG to the first post. I feel it's... so-so. The scope will probably be square.
JeffJedi
Give it a handle and trigger, that way it can be used for more than just in a Marine's hand.
twopounder
I may eventually do that, but it's mostly just for marine hands anyway.
Atraikius
I'm quite curious as to how bolters would look like if you added foregrips below the barrel?
Artemid
The auspex and general design I like, but I really can't help but feel that a regular flashlight and a dot sight are completely superfluous with a Marine's autosenses.
John_f
The obvious question; do you have a 3D printer that can handle that resolution? A bolter is quite small...
